Travelling to western Canada in April with a 19mth baby

Suggested itinerary for 4 weeks in Western Canada, I know this is very broad. Looking at hiring a car depending on road weather conditions, arrive 6 April. Have to be back in Vancouver by 1st May for Alaska cruise.. Flying into Vancouver, staying approx 4 days then driving up into the Rockies. Has anyone done the Rocky Mountaineer with an active toddler?. Just thought driving would be more relaxing due to car seat restrictions. Was hoping to spend about 4 days skiing at Whistler. Is this suitable for beginner skiers? Any suggestions will be taken on board. Thank you in advance.

Driving a car in the mountains, with a kid in a car seat in the spring when snow storms can happen at anytime is more relaxing than riding the train?

The logic escapes me but if that's your thing, then go for it.

The Rocky Mountaineer is not an option until late April. They are a seasonal service, and they start running around April 20th.
I wouldn't recommend driving either, for the reasons already given. Your best bet is to fly from Vancouver to Calgary and then rent a car or take an airport shuttle to Banff. More expensive, but on the other hand, shorter travel times. And the price for a flight is probably comparable to taking the luxury Rocky Mountaineer train.
