Camping Supplies/Stove Fuel in Costa Rica
I am taking a three-week camping trip to Costa Rica in mid-February.Just wonder if anyone has info on camping supplies such as White gas, iso-propane canisters, small propane cylinders, etc.
I've seen some references to Ace Hardware and WalMart in San Jose.
Anybody have any experience with this?

It is best you purchase these items in Costa Rica when you land, and not check them on the plane, and of course, you can not carry on these items. In San Jose, there are many places to buy this, but to be sure, since the CA TT is down, please post the question on the Trip Advisor Costa Rica Forum. Basically, they have big Walmart owned stored in San Jose, and also Liberia, and San Isidro de General. The Walmarts in CR are called something else, I cant remember.
Do be careful camping in CR, outside of the National Parks/Ranger Stations are usually fine, especially the more popular parks, Corcovado, Chirppo, Rincon and Orosi/Tapani areas, but on beaches, private land, personal safety, petty theft the fact there is no real camping and tourist/foreigners are targets, as there is no way to secure a camp. I would be very careful in the more popular surf towns, like Playa Tamarindo, Dominical, Pt Viejo areas, as drug heads, and deadbeats are the norm, and random assaults are not uncommon.

I have a whisperlite "universal", so I can burn just about anything. I just prefer white gas/propane.I'll be heading north out of San Jose to Monteverder, Lake Arenel, etc. Then down the Pacific coast to Jaco, Corcovado, etc. Then back to San Jose via Piedras Blanca, Chirripo, etc. I'll be in Costa Rica for three weeks.
I'm going to try to tent camp where possible...should be great fun!

Hey niles, looks like a great trip. Why Jaco, any way I'm the same. I perfer wht gas as it burns so much better. I'm guessing San Jose will the place to look for it, the tica's don't camp much. You can use propane with your whisper, a special adapter? mmm
