1.5 months to go!!..Sake recommendations??

Hey guys,

We fly out from Canada March 7th for 12 days...cant wait!!!! Bought a bunch of yen because the exchange rate at the moment is awesome...on a 2 year high, and as a result, also bought our 7 day JR pass:)

Quick question...We've been working out our days because my wife and I like full days packed of activities and sights...its just the way we travel.

We have 2.5 days in Kyoto, will be doing the bamboo groves/monkeys (preferably on bike), the typical temples and gardens, but we were wondering if anyone has any recommendations on the best sake brewery to not miss?

Thx!

Hi, although this doesn't relate to your sake question, but as you will be in Kyoto for a couple of days, jump onto the website of the Imperial Palace and submit an application to join a tour of the palace in Kyoto. We did this tour for the palace in Tokyo and it was very interesting.

In an previous trip to Japan we took the bus out to the palace in Kyoto, from the station. But there is a huge wall around the whole place and you couldn't see anything. So my suggestion will get you inside to tour the palace grounds. As with the palace in Tokyo the public are kept well away and a tour gets you inside.

You have to book this from outside Japan and I'd start the process now.

Google Philip Harper. He is one of the world's foremost experts on sake and a great guy. e-mail was philipharper@sakahan.com but not sure if it still works.

The Gekkeikan Museum is probably the most interesting sake-related place to visit in Kyoto.

If you want to drink sake, Yoram might be worth a visit, but call first to make sure they're open.

Watch out for those monkeys on bikes!
