Lumphat To Koh Nhek

Hi folks,

I'm doing a heap of planning & research into various trips which my wife & I have on our "bucket-list". One of them is to Laos & Cambodia with us crossing the border at Kriel. From there we were hoping to go to Stung Treng and then on to Ban Lung Here's where it gets interesting.

I was thinking about continuing in a clockwise direction so as to not 'backtrack' on our way to Kratie. It would be ideal if we could go from Ban Lung to Lumphat to Koh Nhek and then onto Sen Monorom. However, upon reading LP, they say that the road between Lumphat & Koh Nhek is more like goat track and that a guide & motobike are compulsory if you want to travel that way.

The question is, has that road been improved at all or is it still virtually unusable ??

If it has been made then great, if not, I'll redo my proposed itinerary so that we backtrack around.

Thanking you in advance.

i was looking at doing banlung to sen monoram by bicycle. seems the
"road" thru lumphat is partially single-track, partially sandpit, partially mud.

My wife did Koh Nhek-Lumphat last week in a 4+4 car, but said it is doable in any normal car aswell. Took 2,5 hrs and she drives pretty slowly,,,,

Did she hire the car herself ??

What condition was the road in ??

Also, do you know if you can get someone else to take you instead of driving yourself ??

She has her own car

Road condition was from good to descent

You can probably get a taxi from either Banlung or Sen Monorom

Just wondering, what would the travel time be from Ban Lung to Sen Monoram and the cost of a taxi to take you there ??

Thanks for that Chou, took me a bit to find the photos (lots of scrolling there) but it confirmed that unless you have a decent motorbike and the right clothing, that route just isn't a realistic option.

really? ignore this section "Seventh leg: Stung Treng to Banlung" which
sounds hideous. he went off-road....the road from stung treng to banlung
to vietnam is supposed to be paved now.
.
the hard part is supposed to be "Ninth leg: Banlung to Sen Monorom" but
it seems the road was upgraded this year.
.
the crazyguy link is for a ride in the wet season, difference is night and day.
i'm re-considering trying this route. i expect to get into stung treng around
feb 6th or 7th. if you're willing, i'll be looking at:
.
07 FEB Stung Treng – Banlung 145km
08 FEB Banlung
09 FEB Banlung – Kaoh Nhek 90km
10 FEB Kaoh Nhek – Sen Monoram 90km
11 FEB Sen Monoraram – Snuol 125km

I'm not worried about Stung Treng, it's the Ban Lung to Sen Monorom that has me worried.
