Kaohsiung short term housing

Did Thorn Tree recently get wiped clean? All of the posts I've made since I became a member in April of 2011 have disappeared. Odd.

Anyway, myself and my girlfriend are making our way to Kaohsiung in the next couple of days with high hopes of getting situated with teaching jobs and a cozy apartment. Before arriving we planned on Couchsurfing while we searched for jobs but for all our efforts we have not been able to secure a host. It seems a lot of the members in the city are using the site as just another social networking site and are not really interested in hosting visitors. I could be wrong.

I'm wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some places/websites that might offer short term housing for two people, or even hostels that would be willing to offer weekly or monthly rates. I'll be poking around on the Forumosa site as well. We have plenty of "starter" cash to get us over the hump, but would still like to save as much money as possible for getting an apartment getting situated. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. I looked through the Taiwan branch of thorn tree, but it looks like there are only four pages to look through--different from when I looked a couple months ago.

When I looked for accomodation options for my trip last February I came across the Labour Center Hostel:
http://labor-recreation-en.kcg.gov.tw/labor-recreation-en/CP.aspx?s=3068&cp=1&n=13295
it seems about the cheapest option in town.

I can provide no more details, as I did not stay there - finally we stayed in a cheap hotel close to the station. There a couple of hotels in the NT$ 800 - 1000 range there. You will find details in my trip report:

Renting a double room in Kaohsiung usually costs you about 5,000 NTD a month. But most landlords don't speak English and don't like to rent it to foreigners. Maybe you could try to ask people in http://www.forumosa.com/taiwan/ .
