My girlfriend and I in December took a bus from Jerusalem to Elat, a scenic four hour ride along the Dead Sea and a very comfortable bus. In Elat we taxi'd to the border and it was hassle free. There is a 110 NIS per person exit tax from Israel, loose leaf visas are issued if asked, and no entry tax into Jordan but there is a 10JD per person exit tax. The "taxi mafia" mentioned in earlier posts was not present and it is a flat rate of 12 JD to the center of Aqaba. Even though we were flying back to the states from Jerusalem we opted to do this trip in reverse after visiting Wadi Rum and Petra because it is so hassle free. On Shabbot the bus service is limited and if you are planning to travel on Shabbot reserve buses early. The bus is very comfortable and your seat is assigned. There is an exchange money store between the border posts but no ATM.
Plenty of ATMs in Aqaba, none in Wadi Rum and limited in Petra.

Tnx for the info there. Except the flat rate from the border to Aqaba center is supposed to 8jod, of course the taxis waiting at the border will ask for more than this.2
