Urumqi-Bangkok, Manila-Urumqi in July (Guangzhou Airport)
Hi,I'm planning a trip to visit some friends in SE Asia and the Philippines in July. I will be leaving from Urumqi, doing either URC-CGO-CAN-BKK all in one day, or URC-CAN in the evening, then CAN-BKK the next day. (CGO-Zhengzhou, CAN-Guangzhou). On the return, it will be MNL-CAN in the evening, then CAN-URC the next day.
My main question is I saw this on sleepinginairports.com, “If you fly with China Southern and have a layover greater than 6-8 hours, they will give you a complimentary hotel room with transfers and food packs. Find the CZ Transfer Desk near Domestic Luggage Collection (next to International Arrivals).” I'm using China Southern for both routes, so I'd like to verify this if possible. Could I use it on both routes within a month?
Other than that, any useful tips/info on what to expect flying out of China by that route (on the URC-CGO-CAN-BKK option, you stay on the plane in CAN), and back in by said route. What things do you have to do upon arriving in CAN from international flight before going to domestic area? I will be traveling with just a carry-on, so luggage does not factor in.
(My BKK-MNL leg is on a different airline.)
Thanks.

I don't think CZ's free hotel room offer applies unless you are flying through CAN between TWO international destinations AND on >8 hour layover. On a through ticket on CZ metal. Since you're doing domestic > CAN > international (vice versa on the return), I doubt if you'll get any joy out of them.4
Korean Airlines did that for me in Seoul last month. (LAX -- ICN -- CAN) My layover was about 12 hours.5
Thanks for the input, everyone. With #3's comment, I'm guessing it would be more hassle than it is worth to me, even if I did get it. I'll take that all-day through CGO, and figure something out on the return.
Still would be grateful for any tips on travel through the airports. On coming back, as I understand it, I fill out an entry registration card and sign off that I'm healthy? Is that it?
Thanks.

Departure taxes are included in the ticket, correct. There are no longer tax payment counters at the airports...anybody coming up to you demanding "tax" is a scammer....though one doesn't often see these people anymore.Coming back from MNL there will be an arrival card provided to you on the plane, which you will fill out and hand to the Immigration officer with your passport. Normally there is not a health declaration form anymore unless they are experiencing some sort of scare (flu, SARS, etc.). But if you get one of these on the plane also, just fill it out and don't forget the place for your airplane seat number. Since you are presumably China-based with a valid visa or Residence Permit, at CAN you will use regular Immigration queue for Foreigners and enter there, then pick up checked bags at Baggage Claim and go through Customs. You'll recheck for onward to Urumqi but from that point on will be standard domestic flight procedure.

Thank you so much for the verification. I think that's all the information I need for the China portions of the trip. Will have to wait til Thailand and Philippines branches come back to ask about those.
