It had lots of very useful information about the high entrance charges of various attractions in China.
And, unless every thread of the last 10 years is going to be checked, perhaps there could be a system where 'useful' threads are nominated for re-reinstatement?
As for PMs - the TT purge was triggered (at least in part) by reports that the Thorntree was being used for nefarious purposes - involving activities that most of us think are inappropriate (including, coincidentally, in Thailand). I assume they will re-instigate the PM system when they have the filters in it that they feel they require. Relax.
I second this idea, unless maybe eventually everything is brought back anyway, except maybe posts automatically screened out for containing "banned" words.
Till now, posts have been 'reinstated' on a very ad hoc basis, with many useful, long-running megathreads still missing (even after repeatedly being asked for) while even some very obvious trolls having been posted back (as reported by a user on the 'Welcome' thread).
I'm one of those who don't use guide books. I've always relied on first hand info and reports from fellow travellers plus other sources (books and internet).
Now it looks like a major part of it is gone.
The wealth of information stored on TT for many years might never be recovered. Well done BBC.
I'm not referring to the ones from before the shutdown. None of the posts I have made since, except this thread have been deleted. They can't all have been deleted threads.
Westwood. The longer they delay, the more people move on elsewhere. PMs are important.
fwiw, i was allowed to go to the sign in screen one time. i entered my information correctly and then it just took me to the home page. now i can't get the sign in screen but i'm not signed in either?
thanks

TBL and Westwood, I'm in the same position, 500 plus posts in one category, 1000 plus in another, another 500 odd in another category, with a dozen or so categories in all, as shown on my figures, yet apparently I only haved 250 something posts. Very confusing and more than a little annoying.

Can the China Entry Price Rant thread be brought back? I think this is the url: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?threadID=1972549It had lots of very useful information about the high entrance charges of various attractions in China.

Calm down thaibeachlovers - if you actually read the thread you would find that both of these issues have been addressed on previous pages. I have gone from 42,000 posts to 5,000, and I'm not dying in a ditch over it - it simply means that a huge body of old and non-archivable posts have been expunged ... and I would probably do that too.As for PMs - the TT purge was triggered (at least in part) by reports that the Thorntree was being used for nefarious purposes - involving activities that most of us think are inappropriate (including, coincidentally, in Thailand). The whole process of recuscitation of TT and old posts made me wonder.I'm one of those who don't use guide books. I've always relied on first hand info and reports from fellow travellers plus other sources (books and internet).

#279, tbl, according to figures, I have 5442 Total Posts but have a post count of over 7000 on Australia/ New Zealand alone then varying counts up to 5182 on another 3 Asian branches. Still sitting with a negative archived count.Edited by: MrNightwood

Lazlo, I think it is the ad hoc, (seemingly random with no real reason or explanation behind anything) nature of this change and subsequent 'bringing back' which is annoying a lot of people. I can see people's point when they say calm down, but at the end of the day this was a much loved and popular forum for many of us backpackers, systematically dismantling it is going to get people annoyed, and like TBL said, it WILL send them elsewhere, which is a huge shame. LP are shooting themselves in the foot big time, especially if the rumoured reasons behind it are true.TBL and Westwood, I'm in the same position, 500 plus posts in one category, 1000 plus in another, another 500 odd in another category, with a dozen or so categories in all, as shown on my figures, yet apparently I only haved 250 something posts.
