That was not addressing my points zabba, only informing us that those forums are not coming back, which was not what I asked...858 - surely the common denominator on the TTF is a love of travel? To discuss anything with like minded people is simply a reflection of real life.....
859 - And, by the same token - are you going to ban non travel related posts in Health? Many posts there in the past have had nothing to do with illnesses picked up on holidays!

@ Zabba - #867: " the activities branches that have been brought back are there because after reviewing them we found the content to be on topic."Like these ones, for example?

& the same - http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?threadID=2271198 – in Wildlife and Nature

Sorry, Zabba - it just doesn't compute.

How come that the gay and lesbian branch has not been brought back? Was it off topic too? It focussed mainly on gay and lesbian holidays, places to hang around, advices and suggestions, possible problems which might be encountered by the gay and lesbian community when abroad in certain countries etc..etc...

After reviewing the content in WT, the overwhelming majority of the messages were off-topic discussions, unlike posts in the rest of the activities branches. As it has been stated in this thread and is now reflected in our Community Guidelines, we do not allow off-topic discussions in Thorn Tree anymore, hence why this branch will not be coming back.
What topic were they supposed to be on when the branch was about all the stuff that happens off the road? That's exactly what was talked about in WT.

What topic were they supposed to be on when the branch was about all the stuff that happens off the road?Perhaps they were talking about stuff that happened ON the road? lol
I'd like to know who and how the moderators are going to decide exactly what is "off topic". In my opinion, it's going to be totally impossible to prevent people from going "off topic" - it's part of human nature and part of the banter and friendship that gets built up on here. Otherwise we will just have to resort to bullet points with short, sharp answers.
I'm still wondering if I'll ever get my thousand odd posts back..... it's nothing to do with the count itself, there is/was a lot of information gleaned over the years that was on there that looks like it's lost for ever now - as have many other people.

Mods,Could you give us the guidelines for closing our accounts with Thorntree? Is there an option to close an account that means all our previous posts are deleted? I think a lot of members of the forum will decide not to continue posting and may not want their selected posts to remain, so a few people might like to do this.
I suspect that when we signed up, there was one of those conditions in the agreement that nobody ever reads that our posts become the property of LP. However, the nature, style and management of the site have changed so much since most of us joined that it would be nice to be allowed to reassess our willingness to contribute to this site -- or to leave previous contributions available to the public.

Excellent examples in #875, go_2 - thanks for the laugh!Ah, I missed the joke. Those messages have now been deleted. In effect, the mods have gone back to the old system -- deleting a post when it is pointed out to them, even if it had to be pointed out on a public page like this one. I guess they are too busy deleting posts complaining about them deleting branches and PM facilities to actually have time to monitor the travel-related branches.
