I simply don't understand why LP/BBC is even considering not letting people email each other off the public boards...which there's no real other way to do than to initiate with PMs via the profiles...as happens in most other forums online. It is normal, useful, needed. Who do you think you are to try to deny that?Oh yes, you (LP/BBC) are the site owners...but just because you have 'the right to do something' does NOT mean 'it is right' to actually do it.

i completely see the logic of having Gay and Lesbian travel-related questions posted on the main branches. Most of the posts were about finding specific locations in certain places- If some of the replies are hateful that the mods need to remove them and ban those who violate guidelines. Simple. The same could be said for Kids to Go of course. But the posts there tend to be more about the whole concept of travel with kids- a little less about specific destinations. Although it's a vague distinction.Personally I have been wondering for years why a commercial operation like LP/BBC would spend its $/€ on maintaining YC or WT- glorified chat sites with lots of pubescent posts. Honestly, I would have shut both down a long time ago. Anybody who thinks that LP owes it to them to provide these services needs to get a reality check. The site costs money- the company wants something in return.
Now, having said that, shutting down overnight, not giving YC/WT regulars a chance to find other ways to connect or to save personal messages is just beyond rude.

When all is said and done - the powers that be have destroyed a community! Those who don't think do clearly never experienced what a great number of us did!I'm done fighting... But do someone needs to grow a pair and give people like Leela their PMs back- she has suffered enough in recent times.

bellart1, your points have been answered in this thread already. No off-topic branches are coming back, including Your Choice (this is mentioned in the first message), and the activities branches that have been brought back are there because after reviewing them we found the content to be on topic.

I so wish that you had given us a warning before taking away the possibility to save PM's etc.But so be it. Your site, I don't pay, you decide. But I don't think the deciders realise the impact this site has had on real life.
Anyhow, with the changes I'd only be back to track down lost friends or to check if anything I've written during ten years plus will come back. Damage control, if you want.
So, Zabba, please! I have a question that is important to me:
Is it decided that old threads on WT won't come back? If I leave now, can I trust you with not bringing back old threads ("off topic" threads that is)?
I don't mind if my obsolete Barcelona, Madrid, Granada or Camino de Santiago tips come back. Nor the questions about hamams in Berlin, chocolatieres in Paris or YHA hostels in Wales, all posted on the "what happens when you're not on the road"-branches. But the personal stuff, I don't want it to reappear when I've left the building.

After reviewing the content in WT, the overwhelming majority of the messages were off-topic discussions
What would have been "on topic" for that branch considering its strapline was "All the chat that's happening when you're not on the road?" I get, like MTL, that you're not obliged to keep such branches if your objectives change but trying to reinvent history just makes you look dishonest and foolish.
