211Please return the Africa branch ! This is the second time i lose number of posts ! I have been around since 12 years now and instead of moving forward I see that this particular forum (well those who manage it) are only making it go down !

212I'm off to the Netherlands on Friday to work for a few days and picked up LP Netherlands in the local library today for back-up...just browsing through tonight, I alighted upon page 85 which tells me where I can buy sex in Amsterdam and how much I can expect to pay...(€50 for 20 minutes, apparently)...
Sense of irony, anyone?...

214to be fair guys, there is a lot of stuff here getting approved that would not get approved on other internet forums. let's hope that the moderation in advance thing becomes something we can get used to (it seems a real pain), because the moderation itself may not be a bad thing. i wonder how many people they have recruited for the moderation,? maybe that's what's really driving the return dates of the other branches now ? if it is, we'd be better off keeping to travel comments only to free them up a bit to work on the other forums.

218Dunno Eastern Europe, but a pretty good forum for Switzerland (mostly expats) is English Forum (with a dot ch)..

219The thorntree has been a primary source in my travel planning process for years now. As well as being a place I occasionally answer questions and meet like minded people. Anywhere online people can leave inappropriate messages -- but I found them easy to navigate around and find useful information. Perhaps the tree will get back up --and maybe it will be helpful again, but there are many other places to go, as well as other guidebooks to buy.

221I'll be sad to see sections of this forum go - I can't think of a single forurm I've posted on over the years that didn't have some section for off topic chat, to encourage posters to stay around. Over the years I've had some great travel advice from both YC and WT, meet up with posters when overseas, and shown round just as many when they came to Sydney. It's sad to think that is at an end - I certainly won't be going into the city to meet up with a random person from the Oz branch, or take my small child with me to the lunch, but I was happy to do it on more than one occasion with posters from WT/YC.
For those saying YC was a cesspit and the chat branches were full of attacks on posters - a lot of that was down to one or two trolls. This seems to be an extreme way of controlling them. Yes, of course they needed to go, but much has been lost.
I do hope the premoderation stops, as well as the massive lag time for a post to appear (which still doesn't guarantee it will be there the next day). I can't be the only one who doesn't travel with a smartphone and so sometimes needs to check things quickly in a net cafe. The other day it took 25 mins for a post to appear - in the old days I would have had a few decent answers if I'd posted a question on YC or WT. (and yes, there would also have been the smart alec reply of 'what do you think this is, a travel forum?', but hey, I can cope with that). When travelling in future, I'm not going to waste my time waiting so long for things to be posted/replied to.
Mods, is there any chance that some threads from YC or WT can be put up for a few days -even if read only - so people can go back and save their memories? I'm thinking of Leela's threads, as well as memorable occasions for other posters, plus the book group threads on WT that had been going for years. I know this was able to be done in the past when going from TT2 to TT3, as a very helpful mod back then resurrected a thread for me so I could use it for immigration purposes to help the application for a spouse visa for my husband. And you also appreciated the posters at the time, as LP gave us a guide book as a wedding present as we'd met on the tree. All I can say is it is a good thing we didn't name our child after this place. ;-)

222LP is the only company that ever published a comprehensive guide to Solomon Islands, and TT is the only forum that gives good access to information about the South Pacific, and that is why I am here. The other well-known forum I also use only lets people post on specific countries, which is a nuisance for people with regional questions.
I joined in to WT long after I started posting, first on the Pacific Islands branch, and would be disappointed to lose it.
Incidentally, I hope Older Travellers returns - it was a very useful forum for those of us over a certain age, and included some brilliant pieces of travel writing.

223#212 Whats also missing is some thanks and recognition from the parent company to all Thorn tree users
That's very true. We make the forum what it is, and we ain't employees!
Perhaps "they" think that it's a "privilige" to spend our own money just to post on here. News flash- I posted over 12,000 posts, not because I have a burning desire to answer a zillion weather questions, but because it was sometimes "fun", and if it doesn't start being fun again soon, I, and I'm guessing a lot more regulars, will soon be EX regular.
#217 let's hope that the moderation in advance thing becomes something we can get used to (it seems a real pain), because the moderation itself may not be a bad thing
You're kidding right? Why would I want to wait till someone gets around to reading whatever I wrote and then decides whether to put it on. There are a lot of other forums that don't treat us like kiddies. One has been mentioned several times here, and I can answer travel questions there all day, without having to wait to see if anyone else is responding to whatever I wrote.
#218 There was a reason why LPTT was the best of the bunch by a long shot and it wasnt because every post was moderated before ending up on the tree
Well said and very true.
And why can't I PM anyone?
I mainly posted on the Thailand forum. What takes so long to check out? If they want to purge the archives, why can't they just block access to them till they are checked, and allow only new posts to appear? It's hardly rocket science, is it?
Meanwhile, members are leaving to other forums. Tick tock, tick tock!

224I wouldn't call South East Asia a branch, it's a main limb!
Will it be back soon? I'm heading to Vietnam in March!
