I begin be really depressed of what happened with TT. It was so nice and friendly community, good working, we got so much response and it was much more profound questions and therefore advices than for example on TA. And all of this was thanks to all of the features, but most of the functions have been removed now. Can still not find more of threads I also started.
It seems even that the people searching after advices are more and more going over to TA and that is pity.
Andreas here somewhere wrote that everything will be restored as it was before. But??? It seems not to be so.
Hopefully will all be restored anyway! That BBC will understand that it is necessary to maintain a good reputation as an LP has always had.

P.S. and why our signatures cannot be back?

For those of you hoping that the mighty BBC will come to its senses, headline news in the UK today includes:
"BBC torn by civil war....an organisation dominated by 'BBC lifers' who are preoccupied with their pensions and struggle to make independent decisions".
Oh Tony Wheeler, what have you done?

Honestly, I think signatures and edit functions (even though I used them myself) are the least of the issues here. I'd far rather the techies' time was spent in bringing back older threads, getting the search working and getting people's messages back so that contact details and personal stuff can retrieved. These are the fundamentals. Signatures are just a frippery.

My last three posts to this thread have been censored. They all meet the "guidelines" so I assume they simply jangle nerves. So just admit: "You may not submit posts that jangle our nerves" ?....

I felt the same way too (for example, negative on the YC because I didn't use it, or even PMs which I barely use), until i realized these were important things for others... but I think the point is that in terms of "techies time" we're talking 5, maybe 10 seconds to turn those features back on. It adds to the feeling that certain parties just want to make the experience so limited counter-intuitive that we eventually give up.

The question I have is, in what possible universe could signatures, the ability to edit your post, the ability to nominate a post, etc. be involved with the larger issue of someone saying the "something-word" somewhere in some post? It doesn't add up and that's what's most frustrating. It's as arbitrary as saying "users can now only post on Tuesday and Friday mornings because of all the those awful themes they come up with."

I strongly agree though that restoration of searchable archives and an ability to communicate privately with travelers take precedence though as these are THE foundations of this forum.

I am wondering... when will the announcement be made regarding the sale of LP to a US company?

All of the 1163 previous posts aside..........can someone from TT state unequivocally when all the archived posts will be released...... if at all??? To me, this is more important that anything else discussed here at the moment. In all honesty, will they released or not, as its been over 2 months since the 're-organisation' began.

RE # SCOTTYHEATHER.

Quote - "Thanks dave - I'm wondering now what the reasons could be?! "

It would be distracting and off topic to go into those matters here . I double checked and that thread I mentioned and which Groo said he also remembered is still not available. If it doesn't come back I will send you a message when PM's are restored . Moderators have stated that they have "repeatedly promised" that PMs will be restored , so thats a rolled gold promise.

I'd like to know if the changes to TT are complete. Will PMs ever come back, yes or no? I think it's only fair to long time posters to finally put this to rest and give a definitive answer.
I noticed that the Mod Squad ( thanks for the term enroutesiglio) encouraged posters to use Twitter and Skype for messages.
Get real! I'm never going to get into that for a simple pm to a stranger about travel.

##1166 and 1167, PMs will not be coming back. That has been stated clearly on the FAQ branch.

I am very sorry that the decision has been made to finish the PM's function. In preparation to my travel to Burma I received lots of information from kind souls. I also have met some people from this site while travelling and used this function to say Hallo now and then. I also had some possible travel partners , people I liked that we had agreed to meet in the future if chance would be there.
The owners of this site in their fear of trouble decided to cut off any freedom. Now this looks like a dictatorship.
And most of the people on this site were I thought quite brave, with a couple of weirdos around but that you have everywhere ,even in real life.

Moreover the search function isn't restored yet. Looking for information on smal places in Thailand and Laos I can't find anything. This site used to be full of those little gems.
