Not to mention that if you do share information to a specific person by necessity, now that the PM function no longer works, it's considered "off topic" and deleted.Way to go LP, you've completely destroyed the best travel forum on the internet. The CA branch where I contribute is completely dead now, when it's usually at it's busiest this time of year.

+What's done is done, deal with it. +No, you're wrong, and that's the problem here. It's not clear what's been done. It's not clear what's coming back. Nobody know's exactly what's been done and the image it presents is chaos, infighting, and confusion.
For what? A few swear words? (Keep in mind that TT rules previously condoned "salty language," but asked to keep it to a minimum). This isn't some mildly fascinating blog, it's a singular, irreplaceable monument of information, and this desecration, coupled with the "sorry about what happened over the holidays!" posts littering the forums now are just incredibly depressing.
On a real world level, it's had a huge effect on planning for my next trip: tons of tantalizing information shows up via Google searches, but is not cached, and leads to page errors when you get here.
We should've known it was too good to be true...

If you REALLY need a private exchange just post a spam email address (I assume everybody has one of those) and then when you establish contact with the other side move on to whatever other means of communication that you don't want to make public.Having said that I need to repeat what I said above regarding PMs:

Seriously, get the PMs back. I can understand culling all other branches, threads and posts, but not the PMs, that's one thing many of us cannot 'forgive' you. +

My LPTT profile currently states: "This member's profile has been removed as it contains content which is deemed inappropriate."I have again looked through my profile, and there is nothing there at all which could in any way be considered "inappropriate". Have other regular posters had this problem?
I can't pass a PM even to the mods - I am stuck, it is very frustrating.
The LPTT "message" could give readers the impression that I am a tout, or up to something very dodgy. My profile just contains info about my trekking experience in Nepal (I write on the Nepal section of the forum) - the intention being that it will help give readers some background info so they can better judge what I am saying.
Please help!

Came online tonight to buy some books for a trip later this year. Tagged one (South Pacific) then thought I'd check some info I remembered seeing on the US branch last year to help decide whether to tag another. Couldn't find the info! Eventually found this thread. Have decided not to buy the book after all.Who kills the best source of horses-mouth travel info on the web in the name of imposing some arbitrary new standards? It's bizarre to say the least. The explanations offered for the timing and methodology are lame.
I wonder. LP uses Ruby on Rails. Was TT hacked?

Anddddddd... we are back to sign in problems! As I mentioned a month ago, there are problems with signing in... I am currently signed in (obviously- since i am posting!) but my handle and pic are not up in the top right hand corner. instead it is the register/ sign in options. I also can not see my recent posts.
First thought was "I should sign out and try again" problem is... since it still says sign in, there is no sign out option.
Any idea when this will be resolved??
Also... what is the point of "Like a Sore Thumb", as a branch? Surely if you have decided that the gay and lesbian travel branch (and others) are not necessary and you are asking those posted to post in destination branches, one would think that the topics on Like a Sore Thumb could go into a number of other branches.
