By the way Zabba...now that there is no pre-moderating (except on here)....can we have an edit function again?

Mountain out of a mole hill?

Or, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

As a long time infrequent user I struggled to understand what was wrong with the forum. The news told me one thing but I was sure that wasn't going on. Still wondering...

Just as the Lonely Planet guidebooks have sections on women travellers and gay and lesbian travellers, if posters are looking for information on these topics then they can post questions in destination branches.

In the SEAsia branch, my main hangout, when gay or lesbian tourists ask questions related to their orientation, they quite often get quite sharply referred to those now non-existent sections and told that their question isn't appropriate on that branch. Just sayin' ...

If WT and YC were the targets all along, why take the whole site down? And when are posts older than three months coming back online within the forum? Referring users to google to search for them is just dumb.

We're now into the sixth week of the overhaul, and it's still a lesser site in term of content, useability and sensible administration than it was prior.

but neither branch was achieving what we originally set them up

What were they originally set up for?

Regarding PMs, we’re still working through the best way for travellers to continue conversations offline. We know this is important, and are planning to have something to share with you very soon sounds to me that PMs saved from pre-TTshutdown wont be returning...

Sorry but that is pretty freaken heartless to those who have personally significant messages in their PMs.

Quote: " All and any posts on those subjects that meet our posting guidelines are welcome"..
Thats complete nonsense. Any number of posts are being censored here that entirely comply with the published guidelines, and you blatantly refuse to explain why. The mods delete anything they see fit and every mod seems to be doing so based on their own proclivities. If you just admitted to it then it wouldn't be so bad...

Women Travelers branch always had a byline that said it was for all the talk that happened off the road. So I don't understand how it didn't live up to the purpose for which it was created.

I don't understand what the difference is between 'Older Travellers' and 'Women Travellers' or 'Gay, Lesbian etc travellers', in fact there are some mutually exclusive elements!

How come one is alright, but the other isn't? Will 'Older Travellers' be able to talk about 'stuff that happens off the road'? Presumably not - I mean, that's not exclusively about travel, is it - and that's all you want on this board. Since they can only talk about travel, why can't they just do what gay, lesbian and women travellers have to do, and post their questions in the appropriate destination branches?

This isn't an aggravating question, it's perfectly legitimate and relates directly to your own comments, please answer it.

If I don't get my PMs of the last few years back, I'll be beyond angry and upset. No-one could possibly have imagined that messages logged with an organisation the size and status of Lonely Planet would not be safe. I'm beating myself up for not saving them elsewhere, but really, who would have forseen this? LP isn't a fly by night company, and it's owned by the BBC, ffs.

I cannot believe the cavalier way that LP have behaved in relation to this.

And what webs said in #834. Someone moved the goalposts without telling us.

I agree with Websterella.

WT was for everything else that happened while travelling.

I have been on the TT since 2000 (on and off) and the whole way this was handled was very inept. A week's notice to gather PMs would have helped. It's also taken several weeks to get a clear answer from someone about the fate of YC and WT.

I shouldn't be surprised LP, they sold out years ago, so they don't care about loyalty or how any of us have stuck around here for years.

Hi Zabba,

I had earlier asked for 2 long-running threads to be restored, one of of which was on SEA-IP and was promptly restored, the other was on the Wildlife branch which was back then still missing and has not yet been restored even now that the Wildlife branch has returned.
This latter thread was much the more popular one, with hundreds of replies/contributions by users over the years - could you please try and find it?
I also resent you a request, containing the link's URL, via the community email address, hope you will get it.
It is the thread discussed here:
http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?threadID=2292421&messageID=20668527#20668527

Different:

Though I had only ever posted a single reply on it to a girl who headed over there from the SEA branch and as such wouldn't personally miss it a lot, I don't think it is very hard to see why many posters might feel more comfortable posting Qs about "Gay & Lesbian travel" on a separate branch rather than on the main destination branches. I could recall a few cases when such Qs posted on the main destination branches (especially on the Eastern Europe one) got less than friendly responses (as opposed to real "replies"), to put it mildly.
Don't know what talk was going on on that branch to put it alongside YC as "useless", but at least in theory, it could be genuinely useful for many.

but neither branch was achieving what we originally set them up for so we’ve decided, for now, not to reintroduce them
So the tag line 'from back packs to bustiers - all the talk that happens off the road' means what exactly?

"From backpacks to bustiers, all the chat that happens when you're not on the road."

I think that was it.
