Port au prince - Santo Domingo Loop
Hello fellow travelers,I will have sometime off in January and planning a trip to Hispaniola Island for roughly 15 days. My flight will arrive in Port Au Prince on 1/9/12 and leave from Santo Domingo on 1/24/12. So far, I think I might just follow the LP's itinerary loop since I believe it's do-able within a given time.
Port-au-Prince - Jacmel - Bassins-Bleu - Cap-Haïtien - Santiago - Cabarete - Punta Cana - Santo Domingo
My budget is around $75 a day cash - credit card if opportunity arises.
For some reason, I cannot find much info on affordable hostel in Port au prince. I've been reading other posts relating to accommodation but so far I'm unclear of where to stay and for how much I should be paying. Ideally, centralized location that is close to minor tourist attractions would be great.
I'm open for any suggestions.
Thanks in advance!

so sorry that I (or anyone else) was not able to get back to you sooner. So - the time frame you give yourself may be a bit tight, but certainly your budget is. Rooms in Haiti are not cheap typically. When there are guest houses (such as in Port au Prince) they are often in areas that are not near any sights or main transit roads. So - you have to either give yourself a bit more time or spend more money.
Wish I could be more specific than that....
An example is in PaP you could stay at the Oloffson (a bit dumpy maybe, but with charm and history and a house band on Thursday), but the rooms are about $70 + a night. The advantage of this location is it is fairly close to the departure point for buses heading to Jacmel.
Other options not far are Le Marcelin Inn, Le Plaza - Google for contact info - I think they are cheaper.
Good luck!
