Vietnam Visa on Arrival photos - does size matter?

I know there have been postings on this topic a few years ago, but I need up-to-date advice.

I have arranged a visa on arrival for Vietnam, 16th January.

In the attached email they mention that they will need two passport pictures of 4x6 cm when arriving at Hanoi airport. This is larger than the standard size in most countries, e.g. UK. 3.5 x 4.5 (?)

Does anybody know from recent experience whether they are strict on this, at Hanoi Airport? I can probably have bigger ones printed before I travel, but it's not very convenient.

Yes, size does matter, the bigger the better, but shouldn't be too big otherwise it won't fit...

Please remember to bring along two (2) photos 4 x 6cm but not too strict. Following is the list of regulations regarding passport style photographs:

+ Photographs must be passport sized, identical, taken within the past 6 months.
+ The image size from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head should be between 1 inch and 13/8 inches.
+ The photographs may be in color or black and white.
+ They must be full face, front view with a plain white or off-white background.
+ Photographs should be taken in normal street attire, without a hat or headgear that obscures the hair or hairline.
+ Uniforms should not be worn in photographs with the exception of religious attire which is worn daily.
+ If prescription glasses, a hearing device, wig or similar articles are normally and consistently worn, they should be worn when the picture is taken.
+ Dark glasses or non-prescription glasses with tinted lenses are not acceptable unless required for medical reasons. A medical certificate may be required to support the wearing of such glasses in the photographs.

It probably is worthwhile getting the correct size photos, otherwise you'll be worrying that your Vietnamese holiday will be stuffed up because of them. If it is inconvenient, if you have a scanner, scan your existing ones, then resize them with a simple photo editor and then get them printed at the local corner store, I fit about 6 passport size photos on a normal 4 x 6 inch photo print.

I don't know how strict they are, but if your photos are unacceptable, or you forget to bring them, they'll take your picture for you at a cost of about $5. They also have scissors to cut them down if need be.

If this is the sort of thing which will ruin your holiday or make you rush back here to rant about being ripped off for $5, then it's best to bring something the right size....

You only need 1 photo, not 2.
