we're on cebu for christmas and NY - which resort/island?!
Hi.Any advice on a good area to spend christmas and ny. We arrived in cebu tonight. Tomorrow we will sightsee here and then we want to head somewhere tranquil and beautiful and definitely coastal from here on 23rd december.
Maybe a quiet resort in cebu's south? Or head to the islands up north?
We arent flying out of cebu til 9th jan, so im thinking somewhere quiet for a nice christmas week and something more lively for a new years week?
Maybe we should have done more research!
We are backpacking so price is an issue :-) ideally looking to be within 2000 pesos a night range. We are usually half that budget for accommodation but have made peak season allowances.
Travel tips much appreciated for this area.
We like local food, quiet beaches near good amenities but not slap bang in the middle of a walking street, for example.
Thanks in advance, jemma

We were there in Jan this year and I can recommend that you spend xmas in Malapascua which has some lovely beaches in the north and fishing villages. There is also thresher shark diving with one of the many dive agencies. We stayed in MG matterhorn for 900p.For a little more life you can head to Dumaguete which is a small yet relatively lively student town. The big draw here will be the amazing whale shark trips with Harold's Mansion.
We have loads of photos and tips on our blog:

You have loads of options, Bantayan Island, nice beaches, plenty of places to stay, stayed there all over Xmas and NYE last year and had a great time.Malapascua, again good beaches, small Island, very peaceful.
Camotes, best beaches in area, very quiet, not much nightlife.
Moalboal, great snorkeling, good beaches nearby, nightlife.
Alona Beach on Bohol, good beaches, snorkeling, nightlife.
This year Im spending Xmas and NYE in Moalboal, great little place..

Should of included this one also, better pictures of Bantayan, plenty of places to stay there from 500php upwards, from what you have said "We like local food, quiet beaches near good amenities but not slap bang in the middle of a walking street" Bantayan sounds like the place for you..http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Philippines/Cebu/Bantayan/Sta-Fe/blog-679470.html
