Any recent experience of Egyptian tourist visa extension?

Hello, I'm looking to extend my tourist visa (American, 30 day VOA at airport) in Cairo, or elsewhere in Egypt. if you have recently done the extension could you tell me how many months you have got and what's the experience like? Someone I met at Dahab hostel received a one-year extension just recently - not in Cairo, but I forgot where he has got it. I'd prefer to do it in Cairo, but am willing to travel if I have to. Thanks!

Hey,
We have Canadian passports and got a 6 month extension in Aswan for roughly $2. They asked us "how long do you want" and we could've had up to one year!

You can get extensions in Governate Capitals such as: Luxor, Aswan, Cairo and Alexandria. The process was very straight forward, you just need the money and 2 passport photos.

Check out our Budget Backpacking Guide To Egypt here which has lot of info on travelling around Egypt!

Safe Travels.

3 months seems to be the standard extension in Cairo unless you fall into one of the categories that are entitled to live here indefinitely or you're very lucky. People don't generally have any difficulty piling up a few successive three month extensions, though. Every now and then there are rumours of crackdowns but they never seem to materialize.

If you're in South Sinai, you get your visa extension in El Tor. Was never a problem to get a one year extension there. One hour wait and off you go.

#3 I don't think I'll ever forget my trip from Dahab to El-Tor to get a re-entry visa... spending several hours on a bus with broken air-conditioning in the June heat and with an obese army sergeant taking up three quarters of my seat as well as all of his own...
