Hello,
Has anyone travelled the Zahedan – Quetta (or vice versa) route in the past month or so?
Please share any/all first-hand stories and information.
I am particularly interested in knowing:
During what dates did you travel?
What was your method of transport? Public bus? Pickup?
How was your experience with the police escort?
Did you travel at night? If not, where did you sleep in transit?
Where did you stay in Quetta?
How long did you spend in Quetta?
Did you respect the curfew in Quetta?
How did the level of security feel overall?
Was there any evidence of Taliban activity?
Would you do it again?
I really want to travel through this region en route to India and plan to do so starting December 25th. That said, I may re-assess my plans if the risks associated seem intolerable.
Thanks so much for your help!
Cheers
TG

Hi TG,I started this trip 2 days ago, in fact I'm still in Quetta. Today's train was full, so I'll leave tomorrow morning headed to Lahore.
Here you have the answers to your questions:
During what dates did you travel?
Zahedan, 14-12, 10 am
Quetta, 15-12, 17 pm
What was your method of transport? Public bus? Pickup?
Shared Taxi from Zahedan to the Border. After that the levies took me to the Bus agency in Taftan. We started the trip to Quetta by Bus. It departed at 17pm, but at approx. 2am we were taken of the bus at a police checkpoint because it was, allegedly insecure to continue travelling by bus at nigth. We slept at the police checkpoint, very nice guys. At 7am we were taken by the police to Quetta. It took almost the entire day to travel 220 km. We were continuously changing from one police pickup to another. We even traveled in a lorrie from one post to another post with one police escort because there were no pickup available.
How was your experience with the police escort?
It was a good experience, they were nice with us. They even shared their breakfast with me.
Did you travel at night? If not, where did you sleep in transit?
Day and night. As I said before, we slept in the police checkpoint.
Where did you stay in Quetta?
Deluxe Hotel, the cheapest one. There no space in Al-Naeem Hotel and Bloom Star was expensive. This hotel is a few meters away from Al-Naeem Hotel.
How long did you spend in Quetta?
2 nights.
Did you respect the curfew in Quetta?
No.
How did the level of security feel overall?
There seems to be no problem at all, also the people were nice with us.
Was there any evidence of Taliban activity?
No, no evidence.
Would you do it again?
Yeah. But maybe in a motorcycle or my own car.
Hope this helps. It was a great trip for me.
Cheers.
Diego.

Thanks Diego for sharing precious first hand info.It takes about 13 hrs by bus on bumpy road from Taftan to Quetta.Do try to venture out of Quetta city.Stay at Bloom Star hotel, room ranging 500pkr to 2500pkr.
Take a train from Quetta either to Multan,Lahore or where ever your next destination is.
You 'd be escorted as soon as you re in the Pakistani side of the border (Taftan).
