Foz do Iguacu / iguazu falls Options

We are traveling Brazil in Feb 2013. I've read on here that you can do the falls in 1 1/2 days, 1/2,on brazil side and full day on AR side so we planned accordingly.

We land at IGU at 2pm So we have that half day, the next full day then we fly out the next morning. If we land at 2pm is that enough time to do the half day on Brazil side? I'm planning on it but I guess we'll see.

I've also read that it's better to stay on the AR side (??) so this gives us options and lots of questions.

Option 1: Stay all BR. Land, check in, half days on BR side, next day full day AR side then leave next day

Option 2: Half and half. Land, straight to BR side for viewing (with backpacks in tow, how much is there to do? Will this be a pain??). Bus over to AR and stay the night. Next day full day on AR side and back to BR that night. Leave from IGU in AM.

Obv the easy answer is to just stay in Brazil and do both sides, but is option 2 reasonable or worth it??

I would jump on the bus to the National Park, put your bags in a locker (I am sure they have lockers there) and head into the park (so you dont waste time checking in and out).

As for where to stay, it depends. Where is your departing flight from? Foz or Puerto?

If you are arriving the Argentinian side at 2pm, by the time you get out of the airport and to the Hostel/Hotel, you will have run out of time in my opinion.

If you caught a taxi straight there if you arrived on the Brazil side from the airport you could do it. I am not sure about lockers though, I didn't look when I was there as I didn't need one.

Yeah, there are lockers at the entrance on both sides of the park. Even with option1, I'd use them and then check in afterwards. As #1 said, doesn;t much matter which side you stay on, but since you are arriving and leaving from IGU, I wouldn't bother to stay in Argentina; Foz is fine and has inexpensive hostels; one is between the park and the town.

We are arriving and departing from Foz so sounds like we'll plan on staying on Brazil side the whole time. Can we take a bus straight from the airport to the falls? Or do we have to transfer in Foz??

Also, does the park entry fee apply to AR side and BR side or do each have separate entrance fees? Do we have to pay the fee each day??

Thanks for all the help!!

The bus that runs from the bus depot in Foz to the park entrance passes the airport.
Argentina and Brazil are two different countries and each manages a park in their respective territory, so yes, there are separate daily entry fees..

The Paudimar Campestre hostel is very close to the airport and the falls (much closer than staying in town). You can catch a bus from the hostel right to the Brazilian side of the falls.

They also run a shuttle to the Argentina falls each day. They pick you up at the hostel in the morning and drop you off after a full day at the falls. It is a very easy, no hassle way to do this.

Since you want to maximize your time, it would make sense to stay there. It is a really nice place--nice grounds, cheap meals, pool, etc--more like a mini-resort than a hostel.
