Work, Money & Culture in Erbil and Dohuk
Hi All,I am posting my question on this forum because of confirmation about the culture, work and money in Iraq, Kurdistan.
I got an offer from Dohuk, Kurdistan for 1 year. work place is in Dohuk and i will stay in Erbil. I am recruited as Manager post in Telecom VAS industry.
Please friends let me know, is it safe to work for Indians.
They are offering everything except food within 3000 USD per month.
Is it good money??
is it good place to live and enjoy??
Please my friends and professionals please suggest and let me know ASAP. As i am planning to move forward, but before that I need some assistance....
Waiting for your replies.....

Wait... work in Dohuk but live in Erbil? It's a 3 hour drive between the 2. You have to commute everyday?Dohuk is a medium sized town. It has most things you'd need, although maybe not so interesting. Erbil is more lively. With a good mixture of old and new. The Christian community of Ainkawa can be lots of fun.
$3,000 is fine, especially if your expenses are covered. Sure, security or oil make much more than that, but NGO workers and English teachers make much less.

As per the compnay, they said that the company is going to relocate to Erbil. The main concern is about the whether, payscale.
Well, I came to know through forum that there are no such facilities for ATM and the company will provide liquid cash in hand. they are not going to transfer into my account.
Anybody know, if I want to transfer my money to India, is there any other medium apart for Western Money Transfer facility.
Before going for employment to Kurdistan, what I have to do for my security and safeness.
As compny is not going to provide all these things, so if I have to go to some private companies who provide security assurance of mine?

Erbil is safer than any city in Europe or America. Nothing happens there. While the US consulate or the UN have security, it is completely unnecessary. There are ATMs in the city, there just aren't many. There are banks which you can use to transfer money. They are reliable, i've done it myself a few times.

Dohuk is a beautiful city, it's actually my mothers birthplace. There are a bunch of stuff you could do in Dohuk. Good in shopping, restaurants and amusement. It's very safe in Dohuk and it's very safe for people coming from abroad. There are currently thousands of people working in Dohuk who are from other countries. And 3000 USD/month is actually almost 6 times what a regular person makes in Dohuk.
If you need more or specific information let me know!
