Planing my TripBeen reading the forum for a couple of weeks now in preperation for my trip next Spring, so thanks to all for the great information! Four of us are flying to Mexico City then Interjet to Havana. We have a rough itinerary of 3 nights in Trinadad, 3 nights in Vinales, and 3 nights in Havana and will be sorting out hotels/casas soon. I still have a couple of questions tho, so thanks in advance for the help.
I would like to try to reserve the first night casa/hotel in all three localations prior to leaving, is this something I could do over the internet, (yo hablar poco Espanol) or would a travel agent like some of the ones mentioned here be a better idea?
Kinda freaked out about not being able to use any kind of plastic, and the idea of carrying around all cash doesn't thrill me. I was going to get some AmEx travelers checks as a back up, and had even thought about trying to open up a bank account in Canada just for this purpose. It is pretty easy to open accounts on line now but I'm not sure if it is possible me being in the States. Has anyone ever heard of this being done? Also should mention I am only about 3 hr drive from the border so I could go there in person if necessary.
Re the cash, I can easily get CAD, but are big bills (100s) going to be accepted at the banks/cadecas, or should I get smaller bills?
Lastly, I am concerened about the re-entry stamp coming back thru Mexico. I just got my passport renewed and there is not one single stamp in it yet. I'm trying to work out a plausable story should the US La Migra see the two entry stamps. Any ideas or suggestions??
Sorry for the long winded post, thanks again !

1You can't open a bank account in Canada for the purpose of getting a workable credit/debit card for Cuba.
AMX TCs will work for back-up, but they're not accepted at very many banks and the exchange commission sucks. If you do lose them in Cuba you can't get them replaced.
Large bills are fine.
The extra re-entry stamp hasn't been an issue for years and years.
