Travelling to Bali next Wednesday for 5 weeks....

Hi

Male late 30's traveling to Bali for 5 weeks next week (20th Dec ish).....where should I start? Looking for fun, relaxation, excitement, adventure, good food, don't surf but willing to try....heard white water rafting is good there...maybe take in some of the islands as well...happy to party or relax!

Do I need to book somewhere to stay before I leave....happy to stay anywhere, budget is fine but if there was somewhere nice at a budget even better!

Any ideas for where to spend Christmas day or New Years eve?

Is Bali a popular place for lone travelers, if so where do they start from?

1. There is no need to book accomodation if you are arriving on 20 December.

2. Kuta/Legian/Seminyak should be good for Xmas and NYE.

3. Kuta/Legian/Seminyak.

One of the best value hotels in Bali is "Legian Beach Bungalows". It's located in Jalan Padma, about 150mtrs down from the intersection with Jalan Legian (ie beachside) opposite "The Lokha Legian" hotel.

It has a lovely garden and pool, good restaurant for breakfast, is clean and quiet and cheap.

Hi Ray,
Maybe you can add Lombok to your route. 5 weeks will be enough for both.
Booking before arrival is not necessary beacuse you will arrive ath 20th, but better checking first some reference hotel in Agoda or google. Usually the hotels give high season price and it can be 20% more expensive than usual.

Bali is a great place to spend Xmas and NYE..!! :D You will see crowded people in beach at that nights.
Just dont use motor car at that time because you will be stuck in traffic jam. Better do walking.

Happy holiday :)

If you book rooms ahead of time, you will get more choices. Kuta probably is the place for X'Mas and NYE, there are lots of local shops and night life so there will be plenty of people celebrating New Year there.

Padang Bai and Amed are both fishing villages if you are interested in diving, fishing and great beach. To be honest, I have never been to Bali by myself, I mostly went with my family so we just relax at the beach and had some nice seafood. But I think there are lots of budget hotels in all areas, it might not be on the beach but close to beach. Quest Hotel Central Kuta is decent, it is new and not so far from city center. You can find local restaurants within walking distance.

Depends what you're after, Kuta and Legian seemed too touristy to me. You could be in Benidorm! I love Ubud, has a bit of everything (except beach) - arty, culture, rice fields, restaurants, bars (but shuts much earlier than Kuta etc!)

Oh and by the way I'm an English girl travelling on my own and it is easy. Everyone seems really friendly and it feels pretty safe here

Whatever you do in Bali, make sure to stop by and have a drink at Rock Bar, Ayana Resorts.

Kuta can be pretty trashy imo. Stick to Legian/Seminyak if you don't like to be surrounded by touts etc.
