Myanmar Travel Agent for flights

I'm trying to book independent travel in Myanmar in January and need a round trip flight booked between Yangon and Bagan (NYU). Has anyone used an agent they would recommend?

I have sent e-mails to five of the agents listed in LP to get hotel and flight reservations for my trip and only one has responded. They tried to book me on an $800 package and when I explained I only needed hotels and flights they never responded back.

What about booking directly with the airline?

Try 7 Diamonds in Yangon, they book many flights for other agents in Myammar, they have a website and are based in Yangon at the east end of Strand Road.

I had much the same problem and ended up using exotic myanmar just because they actually responded. Ended up being honest and dependable.

I googled around and used Asia Pearl Travels. They say that my tickets will be waiting for me at my hotel in Yangon. Guess I will find out in a week how good they are. Fingers crossed.

Booking through the airlines was weeks of wasted time, I think Myanmar is a country where you should use an agency, it seems to get the job done (It apparently took 2 different airlines as 1 way trips to get booked)

OP...you don't need to sue an agent and can easily book on-line with Air Mandalay website and if you are only after those 2 flights then I would suggest you try that...they always reply very promptly...you can't actually pay on-line but just email their reservations and info email address's on the website and they will respond with flight times and cost, then you just collect and pay for your ticket when you arrive in Yangon...quite simple.

Just beware there is a 'copy' AM website that has a - between the 2 words...they are a Bangkok based French agent and ask for 50% payment upfront.

I, too, use Exotic Myanmar travels and Tours, very efficient and quite cheap in comparison to others I've tried.

I second rivaltribal. I tried all 3 major airlines but only Air Mandalay got back to me, very promptly. The reservation guy put up with all my requests of changing dates and times. And I only need to pick up and pay for the tickets once I'm in Yangon.

Agent will get the tickets cheaper and if you are also booking some midrange hotels can save you on that to.

I didn't actually find that agents got the tickets for any cheaper than buying direct. Air Mandalay were fantastic - and prompt in responding to booking queries/changes etc. I'd book directly with them if I were you. Our agent claimed to have booked flights on Air Bagan for us but actually hadn't. She clearly had no intention of making any booking until we actually turned up and paid the money. This meant that we might have missed out on the flights we needed (we were leaving the next morning). We wouldnt even have minded if she'd been up-front about this, but she blatantly lied about having booked the requested flights!

I also agree that agents do not neccessarily get the tickets cheaper....maybe if you are booking numerous flights they might....but for them to buy the ticket and deliver to your hotel/airport and still make a profit from flights that only cost $70-100, and save you more than a dollar or 2...I find it hard to believe.

a 'fact' huh...damn....of course you did all the comparisons to back that up....???
(and surely you are not trying to tell us your agent got you $100 rooms for $25-40...)

You DO NOT get cheaper tickets through agents! As I suspected. It is a myth (set by touts?)

Well I always found agents to be about $10 cheaper than booking with the airlines but maybe things have changed recently.

The prices were greatly affected by the rapid rise of prices this year another benefit of booking midrange and up through an agent. And yes i did check the online price and the price through my agent for both accommodation and air flights. As herbie says thats unless things have changed recently which was for me about a month ago...

I can't understand why people on these forums get so heated and hostile! I didn't for a second suggest that no-one should use agents, nor did I make a statement of fact in saying that agents aren't cheaper. I simply said that in MY experience that wasn't the case (and I got flight quotes from a number of agents). The OP was looking for a solution to get flights - and I gave my recommendation (book directly with Air Mandalay).
