Perth vs Auckland : silly comparison but I need help to decideHello LP adventurers,
Which do you prefer as a place to live or recreate for an extended period, Perth West Australia or Auckland New Zealand? I know its a silly comparison to outright judge different cities without a greater context, but I'd really value hearing what first comes to peoples' minds, and I don't want to bias people's judgement with too much information, aside from the general values and hobbies of a young traveller/worker: enjoy nature-based activities (diving, surfing), a vibrant youth culture, general "progressive" ambience, not too hot or too cold, year-round opportunities.
Thank you for your thoughts.

2Auckland. largely due to what neverwinter said. There is so much to do within easy reach of Auckland as day trips or weekends.

3Perth might fall into the 'too hot' category in summer though.
I haven't been to Perth but I live in Auckland so can only give you info on that. It gets cold in winter here - but most winter days I can get by with a cardie and something warmer in the evening. In summer it doesnt' often get much above mid 20s but it can get quite humid. There are lots of opportunities for diving and surfing and other activities. It has a very multi-cultural population and lots of things going on for the young (and not so young). And now I sound like Tourism NZ. But I've travelled a fair bit and there are very few cities where I would rather live.

5I live in Perth but have visited Auckland several times recently. I completely agree with 1, 2, & 3 about the isolatuion and heat, but Perth is probably stronger economically, more jobs and so on. Along with that though it's probably much more expensive to live in Perth. Overall I vote for Auckland.

7I'm living in Perth, and Summer is usually good, but very wet this year, I've lived in Auckland, and are thinking of moving back because there's so much more to do there and around, except for cheap and easy access to Asia. If you're happy spending a few years looking around NZ, Auckland is good, if you need to visit Asia regularly, Perth is the ideal gateway.

8Wow, thank you all for your thoughts. A lot of people like Auckland. I'm plenty excited about diving and surfing in Auckland, but economic well-being seems to be in Perth's favour. Does anyone know how the diving and surfing is in Perth? Plus it seems Asia access and other places like shark bay would be a draw, plus interesting wildlife.
