China Eastern airways review required

Hi,

I'm planning a super secret holiday for my hubby in July next year. I'm getting a super cheap deal with China Eastern airways and am quite tempted. I want to know if anyone has travelled on their international flight in economy class. If yes, could you please provide feedback.

I'm flying from Melbourne, Australia to Narita, Japan and return.

Cheers

Only used them on domestic flights in China which was fine, no particularly bad or good memories.

Jetstar seems to be a popular choice for flights Australia-Japan. Did you check them?

How "super cheap"? You can fly with Jetstar via Gold Coast or Cairns for under AU$600 if you wait for the sales. Sign up to Jetstar's Jetmail to get on the mailing list and get notified when sales are on. Those dates (July) won't be on sale for a while but if you are happy to wait it is likely to save you some money.

The Skytrax ratings are pretty accurate.

Only thing I'd disagree with is the "online" or kiosk check-in experience, which I'd give 2 stars for domestic flights and non-existant for international flights.

I'd also give their on-time performance 2 of 5 stars.

Sorry. I stand corrected. He's a Hungarian-American.

I flew on them recently.
Nothing particularly bad happened, but the whole feeling of them was not great.
I slightly regretted taking them.

Jetstar is much better.

I've not flown Jetstar so can't make that comparison, but I did fly CE and my flight was fine.

I just did a quick comparison of CE with Jetstar for 3 week return trip next March.

Melbourne to Osaka return, 11 March to 29 March 2013 (end of winter?)

For the same dates, CE was A$845 return, Jetstar $1,074 return.

I'd assume CE price includes food, drink, blankets, movies etc, so it's probably a better deal,
but Jetstar may still be cheaper for other dates (although you still have to factor in the extras).

I'd fly Qantas direct to Shanghai via Sydney.
Why muck around with 6hr + layovers in Narita which end up costing you money especially if you need a hotel room.Have flown Jetstar on once to Bali and would never fly with them again.

Who are you replying to?

I thought ren1585 was "flying from Melbourne, Australia to Narita, Japan and return."

Going with China Eastern, most of them seem to require an overnight in Shanghai and take over 24 hours to get to Narita from Melbourne.

Have flown Jetstar on once to Bali and would never fly with them again.

Care to elaborate why? I've flown them to Japan many times with no issues. I'll happily do it every trip, especially at the sale prices.
