Does anyone have recommendations for a cheap way to travel from Panama (I'll be in the Bocas/David region) to Guatemala?
The Ticabus is appealing because it allows me to get on and off.. and although I am sort of wanting a direct route, I might change my mind and decide to spend a couple nights in Nicaragua or El Salvador. So the flexibility of the Ticabus sounds good.
However... I dont want to go all the way down to the Panama City terminal just to catch the bus back up through Panama again on my way to Guatemala. I have emailed and phoned several times to see if it is possible to buy a ticket and catch the bus en route in David. But have received no reply... Does anyone know if this is possible?
Also, the online reservation does not work... How do I even buy a Ticabus ticket?
And the website says that you should reserve at least a month in advance. Is this true? That seems like a long time in advance.
Sorry so many Ticabus questions have been directed here... I have not been able to get any sort of response form the company.
(also, other travel suggestions are appreciated!)

2What about taking local buses from BDT to Panama/CR border and then border to San Jose, and then picking up the TicaBus from there? As far as online ticketing is concerned, some of these transport companies' websites are not so robust in their abilities to accommodate the convenience of making reservations remotely. I would suggest showing up in the city you want to depart from and buying your ticket directly from their office a few days in advance. Thirty days in advance seems a bit over-cautious.

3Most people going to Nicaragua and further north from BDT Panama would go on the ferry and bus to the Sixoala border, there is a direct bus to SJ at 8am, 10am and 3pm, takes 5-6 hours, or, go up to Pt Viejo and beaches south are excellent a night or two, then its 5 hours to San Jose from there. You can King Quality or Tica bus from there onward, or you can head north on a bus to the border, or to Liberia, which for 4 hours from SJ. Then another bus from there to Nica border, 2 hours, they depart every 30 minutes to border is daylight. Once across Nica border, you then bus to Rivas, or taxi hire, to Rivas, SJDS beaches, or to San Jorge for the ferry to Ometepe.
There are also flights from BDT to San Jose Pavas airport in downtown San Jose on Nature Air, taxi to bus station from there and then head to Liberia/Border, that would save 1.5 days.
The bus from David to San Jose is about 11 hours or more.
