B1/B2 visa- traveling to Mexico and then returning to US

Hi all,

I'm just trying to get some clarity on what happens if I leave the US, to Mexico, and then return to the US.

I have a 10yr multi entry B1/B2 visa and an I94 card valid until the end of March 2013. I was planning on heading down to Mexico for a week in February and then come back to the US. When I cross the Mexican border do I have to hand in my I94 card and then get a new one when I come back across the border? Will I then get another 6 month stay in the US (which would be preferable)?

From Customs & Border Protection
During your visit to the U.S., you may visit Canada or Mexico for up to 30 days and re-enter the U.S. as long as you re-enter within the period noted on the Form I - 94 which you received when you first entered.
