11 days to split between Jamaica and Cuba

Hi all,

I'm going to a wedding next month and will be spending 11 days there (Mo Bay). I have always wanted to go to Cuba and have found two flights. Both leave on a Monday, one returns on a Saturday with a 14 hour stopover in Panama and the other Thursday (leaving Havana at 5AM!).

Being the first time to either country I want to do it justice. Is 3 days sufficient for Havana? If I do 5 days in Cuba is 6 days enough for Jamaica?

If you have been to both countries, which one did you prefer and why?

Thanks

Many people travel to a Cuban resort and leave the reservation for a day or overnight trip to Havana. Would I do it - no way - see my signature line.
14 hr stop over similarly crazy imho.

Obviously you can't - your decision whether that matters!

3 days for Havana isnt enough IMHO
but sometime is better than nothing.
I would focus more on quality rather than quantity and dont plan too much. Its always good to know what your wanna do but dont plan so much that youre spending more time traveling than actually getting to know a place

Three days in Havana.... geez.... that won't give you time to get to the second bar! LOL!!!

This post may be a bit late for nomadicbker but useful for others:-
You can (and in fact - I am ) flying Jamaica Air Shuttle - Santiago de Cuba > MoBay > Santiago de Cuba on a twin engine 12 seater Beechcraft for about US$210 oneway....quite expensive - but one avoids having to travel back to Havana to pick up international flights. These flights are scheduled on sundays - in the high season at least.
havana is sensational - santiago is great 2! - cuba becomes more African as you go east.

Wakarla -- has this been around for a while? I remember 10+ years ago I had a American friend who used to fly to Jamaica to visit his family and the next day he flew direct to Cuba and after his vacation he would fly back to Jamaica for a day and to New York to his job.

Thanks all. There is a flight that leaves on Monday and returns on Saturday to Havana and maybe that is more appealing. There will be family over for the wedding so most of the time we will be in Mo'Bay and I am willing to come back to the Island again.

Cuba would be myself and a friend and I would be a lot freer to travel there. I'm talking myself into it!

Jamaica Air Shuttle scheduled flights commenced roughly a year ago.

Your friend was probably flying with Air Jamaica.

P.S.: The OP asked the same question in the Caribbean branch where I already told him/her about Jamaica Air Shuttle flights between Montego Bay and Santiago de Cuba. And, BTW, I had quoted those flights in some previous threads opened by other users (an advance search for Jamaica Air Shuttle and user anillos_de_saturno should show them).

anullos_de_saturno -- thanks for the feedback. We shared some good times back in the 90s and I often wonder if he married his Cuban gf and settled down or if he just called it quit.

OP to answer your original question, which it sounds like you are already talking yourself into, I would go for it in Cuba. As one poster said, 3 days is better than nothing! Just don't plan anything, since your first thee days will be spent figuring out how to deal with the Cuban experience. Once you get your feet under you, then see what interests you most in the time you have left. And mostly, just breath in deeply and enjoy!

You got the most out of your trip I suggest you contact Jorge at ...... http://www.jorge-cubaholidays.com/ ....
and have him or one of his tour guides spend a day with you to get a overview of the city or you could book a half day tour at any hotel.

Cuba is an once in a lifetime experience. Have a great trip

Yep -it's been around for few years. Check wikepedia for an account of the the airline's history/flight schedules.

Okay, found a flight that gives me 5 days in Cuba which I will pull the trigger on. With such short notice any recommendations on Casas accomodation to use (thinking a one bed appartment).

I heard Vinales is good looking at forums and possibly the Bay of Pigs on a day trip. Then spend the rest of time in Havana. Thinking to go see a dance, possibly get my teeth looked at for a clean, a bar crawl and anything else people would recommend on a 5 night trip?
