11 days to split between Jamaica and Cuba
Hi all,I'm going to a wedding next month and will be spending 11 days there (Mo Bay). I have always wanted to go to Cuba and have found two flights. Both leave on a Monday, one returns on a Saturday with a 14 hour stopover in Panama and the other Thursday (leaving Havana at 5AM!).
Being the first time to either country I want to do it justice. Is 3 days sufficient for Havana? If I do 5 days in Cuba is 6 days enough for Jamaica?
If you have been to both countries, which one did you prefer and why?
Thanks

Will it really be worth the time, money and hassle to spend so little time in Cuba.If you want to see more of Jamaica other then just MoBay, then you will need a week.
Also consider that there is a possiblity that you can be delayed with flights.
I NEVER think it is a good rule to try to cram another trip into one with such short time.
And that 14 hour layover in Panama, WHAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ONE LOVE !!

Hi Mike,In a word compromise! Understand it is not ideal to be spread so thinly on the ground. If it was anywhere else I would not bother, but I don't know how much longer Cuba will be like that before it changes. I'd love to have four weeks off and do two weeks in both. But a few days in Havana is worth it surely? (Hopes someone says yes!)

Both leave on a Monday, one returns on a Saturday with a 14 hour stopover in Panama and the other Thursday (leaving Havana at 5AM!).Are you aware Jamaica Air Shuttle has direct flights once a week (I think on Sundays) from Montego Bay to Santiago de Cuba (not to Havana though)?
Did you take a look at Cayman Airways (changing planes in Grand Cayman)?
P.S.: It would be a good idea to cross-post your question on the Cuba branch.

I disagree.I think if you have always wanted to go to Havana then go. 3 days is plenty for Havana and if you have the opportunity then do it. Do both Jamaica and Cuba mate,
Catch the 5am flight back rather then the 14 hour lay over.
Yes, and ideal world would mean would have 2 weeks each for both Jamaica and Cuba, but you don't, you have 11 days. You won't "get to know" both countries, but I think the taste you get will satisfy your hunger.

Here is the reason I feel the way I do about this topic.I am a seasoned traveller, and have founded that when I try to split my limited time between two places that I really want to visit, I always end up wanting more time in each place.
I have founded that for me, it is better to wait for when I have the time to truely explore a place, then to rush and feel like I want more.
If you want to go to Cuba that bad, then 3 days in Havanna (which is not all of Cuba) will probably leave you feeling that you wish you had more time to visit other parts of the country.
Mostly likely you will have time for another vacation in the future, before Cuba changes. Afterall, it has been over 50 years being the way that it is today !

I just came back from a week in Havana. It was Great! People friendly, lots of history..loved the architecture also. Food was only so so.. thoI managed to spend a day at the beach in Playa del Este...get off the bus at Tropicoco ..beautiful soft sand and great swimming ..
If yu have questions, ask me or even better , go to the CUba branch..fantastically knowleadgeable ppl there!!
and NO question that Jamaica will be worth your time there too , with the added bonus of GREAT food everywhere!! LOL

Hi all, there is also a flight that is five days in Havana. So possible plan is this, arrive in Mo'Bay then down to Negril and will get to TB for an evening or two. Back to Mo'bay for the flight out and I get back in Mo'Bay on Saturday with my flight on Sunday so I will spend the evening locally there. While in Negril, is there anywhere else I can get to realistically on the South Coast? I know I am missing out on Blue Mountain and Port Antonio but realistically don't want to spend 8 hours on the road getting there and back.
MikeyMike, I lived in Asia for 15 months and that left me with more questions than answers. Realistically you need a year in my opinion to really get to understand a country. I am part West Indies hertiage wise, so I know the food and culture well. If it wasn't for the Wedding I would go straight to Havana as I tend to go to cultures that are different from my roots!

I've been to both and can definately recommend doing both!11 days in Jamaica - after the wedding get out of MoBay, either into the country or to Negril area and south, it's amazing.
Beautiful nature, beaches, waterfalls, wonderful people, jerk chicken, little rum shacks etc.
3 days in Havana will be amazing too. (Been 3x). Walk all day, amazing architecture, people, joie de vivre, music, good food nowadays, cafes to hang out everywhere, dancing, rum, a culture and history nowhere else in the Americas....
You'll want to go back to both anyway ;-)
