Sumatra: Padang to Palembang
Hi all, I'm wanting to get from either bukkitingi or padang by bus to Palembang in the next few days as I have a flight from there. Does anyone happen to know anything about buses that travel this route, where to catch them, cost, timing, and frequency, or even just how to find out while here!Anything would be great, thanks!

Hello guys..,you can catch the cars called "travel" here. 'coz everybody call the minibus like that. and you can find the travel/minibus at the office / booth.around JL.Veteran/veteran street in padang. many direction destination for the cars like jambi, palembang, sungai penuh, bungo, bangko and more.,around sumatra.so you say to the "angkot" driver stopped me in veteran near the travel office. if you using this public transportation. thank you!.2
If you check out http://journals.worldnomads.com/merantau and read: "Roads Less Travelled: Travelling the Trans-Sumatran Highway 1973" you'll see photos and a report of the trip from bygone days. It's a bit of a breeze these days I believe4
When I was in Bukittinggi and wanted to go to Pekanbaru I just went to the bus station a day or so before to find out the timetable and prices. There were a lot of 'travels' in the streets near the bus station which went to Padang - not sure if they went to other places too. There are many travel agents in the streets too who want to do business. You are not alone.Paul

Thanks all! I managed to get a ticket fairly easily in bukittinggi, though it seems only one company has a bus to Palembang, called yoanda. 185,000 for AC, and (in theory) 22 hours. In padang, no one seemed to know about the buses, though I didn't ask the travels, just hotels and guesthouses, and the tourist information centre. Thanks!
