Haven't see the 2013 edition of LP-Brazil... but the 2010 edition recommends the Hotel Mato Grosso while in Cuiaba... NOT! At least not during the infra-structure construction getting ready for the 2014 World Cup! Hotel Mato Grosso has apparently agreed to house the construction workers... leaving very few or NO rooms available for the rest of us.. They did have one very small/hot room in the basement. On our return to Cuiaba after the Pantanal, our tour company recommended the Hotel Panorama instead, which was a very nice hotel in the same general area of town.
