I thought it was Japan where 4 is unlucky. I think 13 is unlucky in China as well.5
Four may well be unlucky in Japan, too, but I can tell you that in Hong Kong and China four is very unlucky, while 13 may be considered moderately lucky (something to do with the combination of 1 and 3). You may find Western-educated Chinese who have been influenced to think of 13 as unlucky, but its not traditional.6
It is contentious in Italy...some people believe it is unlucky, but the usual 'unlucky' number here is 17.This is thought to come from the Roman numeral XVII....an anagram of that is VIXI (I lived,or I'm dead ;-)
The 13 afaik comes from the people at the 'Last Supper' (and is also an anagram of VIXI) ..and 13 people around the table is still considered unlucky in Italy today.

Well I live in Hong Kong (and have been here for the past 25 years), forumuzer, so I think I know what I'm talking about!13
Im sure you do. Maybe I should go to HK. Been there breifly before. Really liked it. Wanted to go back but didnt/dont have the money. Maybe in a few months I could go on a camping trip. I here its possible to hike around HK and camp cheaply especially in the islands.
