Schengen Visas for Iranian citizens

How difficult is it for someone from Iran to get a tourist visa for Europe? The person in question is self-employed and has lived outside of Iran for the last four years, with no intention of returning, but with continuing familial and business ties to Iran. I've been able to find information on how to apply for the visa and the documentation required, but nothing indicating the likelihood of the application being approved. Any information would be much appreciated!

No one will- or even can- give a % probability likelihood of obtaining the visa. Just make sure you satisfy all the criteria, you should be fine. They might call you for an interview- don't hesitate. As long as your intentions are clear- and I'm sure they are- you shouldn't have much reason to worry. They may ask for additional documents- make sure you can provide them.

Which country is the person in question applying from? He/she must do it from his/her home country (of residence, not necessarily Iran).

Good luck.

You're not going to find any documentation on this because nobody, not even the embassy officals in question, can tell you in advance. They examine the application and support documentation on a case by case basis, and grant or refuse a visa based on that.

Why are you worried about probabilities? If you want a visa, then apply for one. Or are you implying that if someone here tells you the chances are 50/50 or less, you won't bother applying?

Certainly a reasonable question as I'm sure the country where the visa is applied for makes a difference. The problem is that there are probably no Iranians on this particular website that can help you.

"Or are you implying that if someone here tells you the chances are 50/50 or less, you won't bother applying?"

Note that applying for visas is not without expenses, which can be much more considerable when you factor in possible travel expenses to a consulate and associated hotel stays.

No, not what the OP wrote. What you have done is to think up an interpretation that seems reasonable to you.

The majority of questions on this branch are from people looking for reassurances, not practical advice.

Anyway, I asked the OP the question ..

SEGao - can you be more clear about what you are looking for. For the Schengen countries, this are tourist Visa for the normal period of 90 days, others for each country for longer stays. A tourist Visa for Europe did not existe.

Thanks for the replies everyone. My Iranian friend is living in China and has lived there for 4 years. I was asking because I'm planning to backpack around Europe and I was wondering how feasible it is for my friend to come with me. If getting tourist visa(s) is too much of a hassle (financially/time wise) for Iranian citizens, then he probably won't come with me. I don't know which countries I'll be going to. I'm planning on just winging it once I arrive, which is why I didn't ask about any country in particular.

As long as the person in question can satisfy everything required by the country and can prove ties to country of residence/citizenship, why not?

However an itinerary must be provided to get the idea, so even if you want to wing it, have some cancellable reservations ready.
