What about Perth airport to Gingin around 8pm? It looks to be about an hour drive. If I went 80km/hour is this really risky or super risky. I've driven for 20 years so am a fairly experienced driver.

If my memory still serves me correctly from a year or two back, I can remember a lot of livestock on the road north of the Coral Bay turn off into Exmouth, particularily north of the Burkett Road.

Can remember thinking at the time I wouldn't like to drive this at night......

Gingin?....you're still in the city almost.
I'll say it again, your biggest danger is falling asleep.
Dr No, I said nothing against driving at night, I've done it a thousand times...us Aussies indeed!
The simple truth is this, 1300ks is way too far for a first go at long distance driving in Aust, or anywhere else for that matter.

The longest one day drive I have done, solo, mid-summer was Cap Hillsborough, north of Cairns, to suburban Brisbane, just over 1000 km. It was a long day.

sorry DrNo - I'm with Shaen on this one - 1300k's in a day on outback roads is just plain mad....

with meal and rest breaks that's probably 15-16 hours driving solo......

no, i have never ever driven that particular drive in 13 to 15 hours..
but then, i have never had to..
if i had to drive it in a 24 hour period,, ............then its a piece of piss,
unless you're a learner.

I drove the stretch north from Carnarvon once (in daylight) and until I saw it, I would not have believed there could be that much roadkill along one strech of road anywhere.

So in a nutshell, Perth to Gingin will be fine at night. My plan now is to rest there, wake up at 5:30 and head off at first light. Should be easy to get to Exmouth before dark. I'm a very experienced driver and have driven 12 hours without a break a few times before (except fuel obviously).
Thanks all
