OP again:Thanks again for all the comments. Unfortunately, my trip took place while the Thorn Tree was offline, so I couldn't take advantage of them to the degree I would have hoped. But I still had a great trip, did a lot of walking, ate some Russian pastries in Brighton Beach, and really enjoyed myself.
And I've made a note of all these suggestions for next time.
