Uruguay Pesos
We will be leaving for Uruguay in 3 weeks and I wanted to exchange some sterling cash for the local currency before we left so that we have a bit of cash when we arrive. I can't seem to find a company that will do this exchange here (I'm from the UK). Has anyone done this and know where to go?Thanks

Have you tried the American Express office in the UK? I know the ones in London have lots of currencies.5
Thanks I am going to London next week so if I happen to be near one I will go and ask. Just had a look at their website and they don't have it on there unfortunately. I have a card that's free to use abroad anyway so if I don't find anything I will have some dollars in cash and will withdraw some local currency from the ATM :)6
It depends. Exchange houses in Uruguay will offer a better exchange rate on the USD than on EUR or other currencies - it's more liquid, so the spread they charge is smaller. So if your home currency is USD, come with USD and change in Uruguay. If your home currency is EUR or other major currency, the cost of changing to USD and then to Uy pesos will not be worth it - so come with EUR.
And yes ATM machines in Uruguay will dispense pesos and USD, charges will mostly depend on your bank.

If you do use ATMs in Uruguay, don't enter some large rounded amount like 2000 or 3000 because then you'll get thousand peso notes that a lot of people won't want to use. Withdraw 1900 or 2900 etc to get a mix of notes.
