9Hobbies? Sports? (membership of a ..?..)
Where´s she´s going to study?
Plans to travel? Guidebook
-The book The Undutchables
-As above posters, Hans Brinker, the phrases and other (relevant) novels about NL, e.g. if studying in Amsterdam for example: Baantjer, De Cock-series
-Another example: University Twente (UT) Enschede and California (LA) related
-Museum card, website in Dutch you might try with a (Google?) Translator: http://www.museumkaart.nl/
It can be sent to a specific address, I assume there will be one in NL.

- Photos of you and her.
- Lonely Planet The Netherlands guidebook.
- Money for a bike and good lock. She'll probably need a rickety old-looking bike if she's going to study at one of the universities. Nice-looking bikes get stolen (even) more quickly. She will need good locks but she'd better buy them here.
- Culture shock remedy... something that will remind her of home!

11I agree with the recommendation for a rain poncho. A friend who moved to Amsterdam recommended same to me when I came to visit...REI Co-op has a very good one, quite affordable and lightweight. Small enough to stuff in a purse or pocket but still durable (I still have mine, it's 12+ years old.
Wool socks, good gloves and warm scarf (as above) were also much requested items from friend...gloves are lost, scarves borrowed/lost/forgotten and socks wear out.
One year when I went to visit (we met in France for vacation) he asked me to bring a tube of antibiotic cream as either too pricey or not available there. (used to shopping in CA 99c store..)
One year he asked for a tee shirt from the Museum of Jurassic Technology (in LA)...didn't want the usual tourist type stuff, but shirts that reflected real CA pop culture (In-n-Out tee shirt, too)...
Hope she has a great time.
