Travelling from Israel to Egypt and back

Hey,

We are to arrive to Isreal around Christmas, and plan to travel to Egypt in few days time. Is it possible to cross the border at all? And if so, is it safe?
Our plan is to travel back in about 2 weeks time, and spend one more week in Israel. So the second crossing is planned about two weeks later.

Thanks for your help!

Sure it's possible. The Taba border crossing just across from Eilat is open and perfectly safe.

The only hitch in your plan may include the requirement to secure a visa prior to arriving at the border crossing. The only Egyptian visa you can get at the border is a Sinai Peninsula only visa. If you wish to go to Cairo or elsewhere in Egypt beyond the Sinai you'll need to get an all Egypt visa prior to arrival at the border.

You can do this in one of several ways. You can get one from home prior to leaving, you can get one from the Egyptian embassy in Tel Aviv or you can get one from the consulate in Eilat.

Good luck.

yes, we would like to go to Cairo as well. Planning to get the visa at home, in advance.

Is the Taba-Cairo ride safe?

Thanks for your quick answer!

Yes it is. The problems which were experienced previously were farther north than the main highway.

I recommend taking a shared taxi from the border rather than the bus. The shared taxi is faster, easier, more comfortable and not that much more expensive.

Have a great trip.

Sure.

Getting your all Egypt visa prior to your trip is a good idea. When I go to Egypt via Israel that's the way I do it. It's a lot easier.

Last month, I take the local bus from the Eilat bus station to the border ( but the bus travel to the other side of the city, then continues to the border. So, taxi seem better). And from the border to Dahab by bus. It's safe, no problems.
