Pico is definetly number 1, because you can hike up the highest mountain in Portugal (2351m), the mountain of Pico, so it's an obvious choice. If you're travelling from a European country, you'll probably be landing in São Miguel first, so that is another possibility. It's the biggest island and it has plenty of hiking trails and interesting lanscape, so you could do São Miguel and then Pico.

I agree, Pico is definitely the best.

Other islands you visit will likely depend on your flight schedules, how you have planned your trip. If you are going to Pico, most likely you are also going to Faial (landing in Horta) and you can also visit Sao Jorge, which also has some nice seaside trails.

Hi there!

I am in Slovenia and looking for a cheap flight to Portugal (likely from Venice, Italy). Noticed you mentioned that if flying from a European City, its likely you will fly to São Miguel? No flights I am looking at, fly directly there! Any suggestions?

Thanks!
