INDIA VISA PROBLEM

I applied for an India visa on the 5th of November by post with India visa head office and have not recieved my passport back yet. I'm starting to lose my cool and running out of time.
As I was supposed to meet friends from oz on the 22nd in Karnataka I thought that would be plenty of time (15 days) They left on the 5thDecember yesterday so I missed them. What a mess.
When I phone they say a few more days its being processed and sound apolegetic. I know its not thier fault as they dont actually issue the visas. Its all outsourced of course.
Does anybody know how long they can keep U.K. passports like this. Is there any other way to put pressure on them to give it back ? Do I contact the home office or something like that ? Or would I never ever get into India in that case

It should NOT have taken this long if there was no problem with your application, and IF there was a problem they would have contacted you by now.

See If you can speak with the manager of the Office and try your best to keep your cool, which isn't easy I know.

Hi

Sorry, I can't help posting to warn others:

You seem to have applied through an intermediary (Indian Visa Head Office) and not the official outsourced agency VFS Global. If this is correct it only adds to the time taken (and costs).

Hope it is sorted soon.

. Yes I think there is a problem with my application but the people in the india visa head office at grays Essex dont seem to know what it really is. Sometime in the process they phoned and asked for a letter saying that I dont intend to work in India and when I intend to travel.
I wonder if anybody knows If its possible to somehow get passed these middle people at these useless outsourcing offices and talk to the real live visa stamping folks at the real live embassy consulate office. Is this vfs really any better or just another one doing the same thing.
They really gave me the impression that my passport has been at the consulate all this time not with them. Why would they make this up ?
I wonder if many (non Pak origin) UK people get refused ? I dont think many English people work illegally in India. I certainly havn't met any. I did have a few of India visas in my passport but all I do when I go there is spend money not make it.

VFS is the official outsourced agency and all applications must go to them. So,as I understand the situation (no experience), you sent your paper application to IVHO, they submit it electronically to VFS who in turn send it to the Indian High Commission who make the decision.

By using IVHO the process has been lengthened with three organisations involved instead of two.

Good luck.

If thats the case then its good advice. I thought they are doing the same thing. (Vfs and IVHO) All the agencies claim to be THE official one. So I will apply with them next time. Its not that obvious that Vfs are really THE ONE so giving the chance to dozens of these pointless agencies which dont need to exist at all. But anyway I think that its the consulate which has my passport not the agency. I could be wrong of course they could lie to me about it. I wouldnt know.

Thanks again

Hi

There lots of companies that appear to be the official agency and the High Commission of India could do more to make it clearer. As it is, they have this information on their website.

Scoodly,
So VFS then ... if I make contact they should have records of my application also ? May be able to say whats going on. Its a hope. Will they be any help is another question altogether.
