I've flown back to northern England (from Umbria) today - it hasn't been above -3 all day here with patches of freezing fog. Neighbours say the frost hasn't lifted since Sunday, but all change tonight with a deep low pressure bringing gales, heavy rain tomorrow and temperatures back up to normal for this area in December around +7 or 8. I guess I'm disqualified from this branch now I'm in UK (despite the earlier hemispherical challenge?)

The southern wind has warmed things up here too. On Wednesday morning it was -2 or -3. This morning it was 11° at 7 am. But cloudy.

After the rain yesterday, this night and now the sky looks between dark grey and light black, outside 10°. Up between 70cm and 1,30 meter snow at the nearest ski resorts.

5-7 cm of snow here in Milan and still falling. Break out the Bing Crosby records!

(The only other time I've seen this much snow in Milan, I was expecting a package from Amazon--until tracking suddenly decided that delivery could not be made due to a "natural disaster").

Bonn - the sun is breaking up the dull grey clouds. Currently it's about +3C I reckon which is great, cos I have a baaaaad hangover from last night's christmas party. No snow is left, and long range forecasts do not anticipate any more until well beyond Christmas.

It's rather pleasant actually.

Sounds like England during the heat wave of 2003. When temps hit 30° they stopped running trains for fear the tracks would warp with the heat.

It's time now to think about how to go to Bengalore for the next month.

I hear that Alitalia and Trenitalia are already having problems up north Craig.....

Are you staying in Milan for Christmas?

A day like this in Chicago, say, far from being a natural disaster, would be considered a typical winter day.
I notice there are trucks spreading salt. I'm slightly surprised the city is so prepared.

Yes, I'll be in Milan all holiday season, Luca. Hoping my flat-mates won't be.

Massive hailstorm today..

All the streets here are flooded.

A house collapsed and fell down last night (with the strong wind) as well....3 or 4 people are dead.

It has been really nice here these past days. Mostly sunny and right now it's still about 15° outside. An occasional shower but nothing much.
