32Here's an essay written by my 16-year-old grandson----
Hi Grandma! I hope your trip is going well! I had to write an essay for school and I wrote it about you! So I thought that you might have wanted to see it
There are so many amazing people on this planet, that it would seem impossible to have to pick the one person that inspires me the most. However, if I was forced to pick, I would have to go with my grandmother. She is an unstoppable person that will do anything if she puts her mind to it. Currently she is backpacking in Morocco. She is also 78 years old. Yes you have read correctly, 78 years old, backpacking in Morocco. Not on a cruise in a wheelchair eating liquid food, but on an exotic adventure to Africa. Now this may stun a reader, but to my family and I it is completely normal. She will be gone for three months and in this amount of time she will have traveled in Morocco, Italy, and Spain, where me and my brother will be meeting up with her for four weeks. She has been to countless countries around the world and 5 continents, excluding Antarctica and Australia. She gives me hope that I will be able to do the same thing once I have retired, and live my life to the fullest. Also when something goes wrong in my life, I think of her and her adventures and how in the long run it will not matter and I will turn out okay.
Serving others has always been very fun for me to do. I help lead a church group every Wednesday and throughout other parts of the week I help plan what we will be doing the following week. We will be going on a church retreat a week from Friday and that will be a great opportunity to bond with the ninth graders and help them on their journey towards conformation. I also volunteered at the Eden Prairie library last year every Monday. That was a lot of fun because the librarians greatly appreciated my work there and it was eye opening to see all the work that goes on behind the scenes of a library. This summer when I am traveling in Spain I will have the opportunity to spend time at a camp helping teens learn english. I am sure it will be a great amount of fun and I am greatly looking forward to the experience. Another event that I will be taking a part of this summer is going on a mission trip with the church. We will be traveling to New Orleans to build houses for people in need. So before I retire and travel the world, like my grandma, I will be going on my own little adventures along the way.

37Lor, you are an inspiration to me too! :)
I was reading in our local national paper just yesterday about how many baby boomers over 65 did not want to move to a retirement village but instead prefer to stay where they are!!! How depressing!
I hope to downsize but definitely no retirement village for me too. The downsizing is so it will free me up to travel and allow me to do whatever it takes my fancy. BUT, definitely not to retire from a life without travelling. lol
