Reggaeton Banned in Cuba as Castro Cracks Down on Music

Really?? I have a big problem of course with most forms of censorship but personally would be grateful to not ever hear another Reggaeton song. I wonder how this will affect the street and club raves and Reggaeton played in a cab etc. What's next? A ban on stupid male haircuts and the phrase "Hello my fren..." ??

I am not a fan of Reggaeton so they can send all the reggaeton singers including my partner to the Island of Youth to rap their hearts out.

As a side note a group of Italians singers will be putting on a free concert in Havana this Saturday. They bought over their own sound equipment and whatever else they need to blow the roof off. Sounds really really BIG according to my companion who is thinking for going to see them sing and maybe get their autographs.

Other than the misleading headline there is nothing to suggest a total ban.
"The Cultural Ministry’s music institute will levy severe sanctions or ban musicians including reggaeton artists whose lyrics are deemed sexually explicit or demeaning to women"
Pity though (re no total ban).

Wow!!!!! The administration is going to crack down on “vulgar” songs in the island nation and artists whose lyrics are deemed sexually explicit or demeaning to women,

Gee.... if only our first-world governments were so progressive, and free speech be damned. Nobody needs to listen to that crap.

And how fantastic - “Neither vulgarity nor mediocrity will be able to tarnish the richness of Cuban music” - thank all the gods. The double entendres in the old songs were a lot more subtle, and a lot less demeaning to women. And a hell of a lot easier to listen to :-)

But then I'm just a grumpy old woman........

Sayeh, I had the same thought about the deep tradition of double entendres in the music. El Guayabero comes to mind.

I don't care about lyrics -I don't get them most of the time anyway- it's the damn music I can't stand.

No you misunderstand Rickie - consistent with my tshirt's message I pressed the mute button!
I'm with Caney hence was disappointed that it all was not being banned!
