3 weeks in Bali - too much?

Hi there.

I'm off to Bali in Feb 2013. I am meeting one person for 1 week and a different couple of friends for two weeks. I'm not mad keen on seeing the same things twice with different people. Are there any places nearly that I could get to easily to spend the week on?

Or do you think Bali is lovely enough to sustain me for three weeks with only a little overlap?

Thanks

You could go to Java, visit Borobudur, which is a world-class attraction, and then on to Blitar, a hidden gem in East Java.

Or you could go the other way,to Lombok or to Komodo.

Depends what your interests are and what you want to do......

And ',of course, you could stay on Bali for the full 3 weeks ;-)

All comes down to the same thing...what you like doing. Why did you choose this island? Are you into eating, shopping, trekking, the beach, ruins, jungle, diving, mountain climbing etc etc?

Thanks guys. I didn't exactly choose Bali, but I have two friends travelling and that's where they are in Feb, and a sister in Oz, which is (almost) within spitting distance so she's coming out to visit too:-) (I live in the UK)

I go on holiday for the wildlife generally, and natural wonders. and hiking, Not a massive beach person to be honest but having done a bit of research, Bali is more than beaches. Not into shopping. Have been looking at Orangutans on Sumutra....

@ #4: If the weather allows, you could do Semeru, or just hike up to Lake Kumbolo, which is worth it too.

If wildlife is your thing, you only need to hop across the strait from Bali to East Java.
Alas Purwo and Baluran, 2 of not only Java's but all Indonesia's best national parks for wildlife, are actually overlooking Bali and can be reached within a few hours!
For hiking, East Java also has some of Indonesia's most spectacular volcanoes, namely Bromo, Semeru and Ijen.
All these are within easy reach from Bali, yet far better for wildlife and hiking than anything you could find in Bali - and a lot less commercialized, too.

spend 1 week or 2 in Bali and 1 week in Lombok or Gili Islands. Gili Islands is paradise!

Rinjani is closed during the rainy season.

If you are into wildlife, you could also go on a snake night tour in the forest in Bali with Bali Reptile Rescue - makes a change.

Bit of a trek to get there but very much worthwhile in my opinion is Kuta, Lombok. Amazing beaches and a very laid back atmosphere. All range of accommodation from budget huts to better AC rooms with a small pool.

We spent a few days there and took some pictures and a few tips:

Thanks folks. Loving the East Java wildlife idea's and the night snake tour ?(note to self - take long trousers and long socks!) Would LOVE to hike up Rinyani but I know I can't in the wet season. Never mind, can't do it all!
