thoughts on my 15 day Peru itinerary...

I am arriving to Lima on Dec. 6th (with my 60 year old mother) I am planning an itinerary for 15 days-leaving Dec 22nd out of Lima back to the US.

I am thinking one night in Lima (we get in at 11pm on the 6th) at a hostal in the San Isidro area...to see the fountain and San Martin Plaza, Monastery San Francisco...

Maybe a bus from Lima to Arequipa (stopping in Pisco-or to see Islas Ballestas?)...thought this might be nice to hold us over until we can get to the Galapagos one day :)

then on Lake Titicaca (I thought the floating islands would be cool to see) I may take out this part and just stick around Arequipa and do the Colca Canyon instead...

next head to Cusco...Ollantaytambo...then MP...

My mother was thinking she would also like to see the Amazon in the north (fly to Iquitos and go to the Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo Reserve via Amazonia Expeditions (I've been communicating with Paul on a 3-5 day trip staying at the lodge)

My mother is in great health however I am worried about how we should see MP and the surrounding area. I would love to hike/trek...but have heard that has become very touristy and pricey and could be very wet (and not fun) during this rainy season.

Maybe an alternate hike...? Something manageable for my mom would be nice...she currently can walk 7-9 miles (at no altitude) with no problems.

Would love your thoughts on my itinerary so far, and also wether to include the amazon trip up north...and your opinion of the best way to see MP considering I have my mother with me. Train vs. hike vs. bus...

Thanks for offering so much wonderful advice already from what I've read in the forum.

I really want to make this trip a once in a lifetime for my mom~and we both love getting off the beaten path, meeting locals, and doing things differently than most american tourists. My Spanish is 'ok' by no means great but it was enough to get me around in Guatemala this past spring :)
