Hi Rob ............................. (keywords: Bulgan, China, Mongolia, Russia)You asked: is a land border crossing in the far west of Mongolia into China
Yes there is a border crossing in west Mongolia into China. It is open for all nationalities.
On this map you will see all the road border crossings open for tourists relevant for cycling.
It shows the west crossing from Russia to Mongolia, and the west crossing from Mongolia to China.
More detailed information on the Bulgan border crossing from west Mongolia into west China you specifically asked about.
For even more information on all border crossings see the border post.
Have a great time planning, and even greater cycling.

Someone asked a similar question very recently, about the borders from Mongolia to China. Do a search.3
Hi Dan,Many thanks for your extremely helpful reply, it was very useful.
I am now waiting on the visa company giving me the info I need to get the Russian, Mongolian and Chinese visa's. If you have any advice on this I would be grateful to hear it?
My cycle ride will take me from Wales to New Zealand starting April 2013. I have changed my route a few times but now think I have settled for the following route:
Wales - France and across Europe. Turkey - Georgia - Russia - Kazahstan - Uzbekistan - Back into Kazahstan - back into Russia - Mongolia - China - Laos - Thailand - Malaysia - possibly Indonsia - Australia - New Zealand.
Thanks again.

Hi Rob .... MongoliaSounds like an exciting plan.
Visa - you have to use your visa (enter Mongolia) within 3 months from date of issue. So plan ahead in what capital of what country you want to wait for your Mongolian visa.
Timing - plan the timing for entering Mongolia to the beginning of the summer. Winter is too cold to cycle in this region.

Your problem might be the Russian visa. Even with a multiple entry visa, the longest period that you can spend in Russia is 90 days at a time and then you need to be out of the country for 90 days. You might want to check with the cycling federation in St. Petersburg or Moscow to see about other options.Ruth
