7 hour night layover in Amman

my flight arrives at 6:30pm and leaves at 2am. it's my first time in Jordan so would like to make the most of it... what do you all suggest to do? is it possible to get to the dead sea and come back by midnight? and would there really be anything to see or do at the dead sea so late at night? or am i better off "sightseeing" in Amman? im open to suggestions. thanks.

No, you cannot get to the Dead Sea and back in time (well, you might but it wouldn't be worth it).

If you are willing to pay for a taxi both ways you can make a quick trip into Amman and look around. Figure an hour to get through immigrations and customs, the trip to Amman and back to the airport and the need to return two hours prior to your departing flight; that gives you about three hours to look around.

You can't really see much, but you could go to a specific area and see some stuff.

Good luck.

Well if you take a taxi to the Dead Sea it takes about 50 minutes - however, not much happening in the Dead Sea really. You would need to use one of the hotels - you can go in and just chill, such as Movenpick, where they sometimes have live music after 7.30 - 10.30.. Not much to see though as its dark except the lights across the other side on the West Bank of the Jordan.

Probably better to take a taxi into the Downtown area or Rainbow street and have a walk about there, have dinner and then get a taxi back to the airport at 11.30pm.. You could negotiate a short spin around Amman with one of the taxis if you fancied that. The taxi from airport to Amman is around 25jd now - going back he may include a short 15 minute ride around before going to the airport for the same price as the traffic is less.

Hop over to Madaba for a nice relaxing dinner. Small little town and closer to the airport. Churches are closed though.

Amman is your best bet. See the Roman Amphitheatre, or go to the top of the hill for views of the city, or eat some good food in the city centre. You use "sightseeing" in quotes, as though there is none to be done in Amman, but this is not true. It's no Damascus, but it's still perfectly fine especially for a few hours.

If you want to see the Dead Sea then try to change your flight to give you another 24 hrs.

Thank you so much for all the info! Johnnnn, i didn't mean any disrespect but figured that there wouldn't be much to see at night in Amman but i guess thats true of the Dead Sea too. I like the idea of just going to do a dinner so will do that. either Amman with a few stops or maybe just Madaba. Thank you all again!

no problem! Just letting you know that Amman is fine and the people are good. In the eveninf Amman or Madaba will be good for dinner and a street tea to people watch. Amman will be low-key busy, Madaba will be quite quiet really. So depends on your preference.
