now that movember is overi'm planning a trip to asia-burma/thailand/nepal.On previous trips (india/sri lanka) i've gone to the local barber shops for a cut throat shave (the razor that's used not the price).these guys are artists.its a real treat always expertly done and very reasonable. a fine way to connect with local folk and pass on some low impact tourism $.Hygene of course not the top priority in most of these places.
anyway i have a nagging worry about the possibility of something being passed along (aids/hepatitis or or) through cuts due to the use of the razor.I must say though i've never had as much as a nick.often the barber will make a show of unwrapping a new blade.I'm guessing in some cases frugality gets in the way of ethics and blades get "recycled" into the wrapping.
should i be concerned- is there a risk of transmission of disease (a la sharing needles)?
maybe i should buy a cut throat razor before i leave and take it with me to the barber to use.
i won't be using it on myself i'd be afraid of ending up like edward scissor face.

4I had a few of those close razor cut shaves in Nepal, but I made damn sure they opened a brand new razor every time they used one on me. If it was not taken out of a freshly opened box, and unwrapped in front of my eyes, I would not get the shave. Looked cleaner than the straight edge razors here at home (USA) where they pull it out of a glass of antiseptic and strop it across leather before shaving you.

5For Hep A and B you should be protected, but Hep C and other Hep types there is no vaccination,
Hep C is often not detected at all since it hardly shows any symtoms and most of the time is only found if you liver function reading is not normal, but that can be years after you got infected and only if you doc runs a special test for it.
