weather and itinerary in the philipinnes

Hi there,

my husband and i have been traveling for a month in asia now and just arrived in manila. we are interested mainly in diving, and have been here once before.
we've been doing some research and have the LP book, and have some questions which i hope haven't been asked here before...

we've already been to boracay, dumagete, moalboal and alone beach a few years before. this time we plan on going to apo reef, malapascua, puerto galera and a place where we can see whale sharks (donsol or leyton).
we have just about all the time we want, and were thinking about kicking off in Sablayan, as i read that from mid december winds begin to blow and it gets hard to reach appo reef. from there we thought about going up to Puerto galera, then to catch a flight from manila. we figured we'd check about weather and conditions and see where we go next.

1. I was told a typhoon is now approaching, how can i know where it's supposed to hit? I can't really understand from the internet if it's supposed to hit mindoro (sablayan or puerto galera).

2. what is the best way to find out if there are whale sharks now in Donsol/Leyte?

3. if you have any thoughts or ideas about our plan, feel free to say, as we're a bit confused with all the options and the flights that are available.

thank you in advance,

michal

You can use this site for tracking the typhoon - http://www.typhoon2000.ph/. Also see this thread for more info and links - http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?threadID=2279740&messageID=20567573#20567573

Basically the huge super-typhoon is headed straight through the middle of the country - right across Mindanao through the Central Visayas and across to Palawan.

I don't think this is the season for whale sharks in Donsol.

As for a route, fly to San Jose, Mindorro and bus to Sablayan. Then you will need to bus/jeepney back to Puerto Galera. Ferry/bus to Manila and fly to Cebu City and bus up to Malapascua. Back to Cebu City then ferry to Ormoc and bus down to Sogod Bay..

Being as your stuck in Manila, may I suggest eating at Dad's resto in the Glorietta 3 mall in Makati. Had an amazing buffet there on the last day of my trip. 699p buys you all the sushi,seafood/turkey/lamb/lechon you can eat, over 200 items, very good, very fresh. My brother is staying in Makati on business and highly recommended it, he wasn't wrong!

I am with you on that Jagman,
I am a regular at Dad's albeit the branch in Alabang town center. Great value for money,I avoid weekends and holidays as there can be a queue of families waiting for tables
Prices are from P415 to P699 depending on the food you want. Plates are colour coded to the particular food that can be chosen, all in all a great system

I was there around 5pm on a Monday nite, place was completely empty, (just opened?) was making me wonder. By the time we finished our dinner there was hardly a place to sit. Sushi was excellent as well as everything else and the service for drinks & clearing your plates away was good as well. My farewell dinner to the Phils.....till next time!
